Default Dash Wiring

Reassembling my dash after this year-long frame-off, and am trying to figure out where this 18G dark green or brown wire with a white stripe goes. I had it tie-wrapped together with a 18G black wire with a small holed terminal lug on it. I already have the 14 gauge black wire with the terminal lug grounded at the bolt at the left side of the left panel. These two wires protrude out of the harness at the same point as the tach panel lights. I can't find these wires on my 68 wiring diagram. The wire in question has a single spade plug on it just like the ones for the speedo and tach 14G ground wires. Maybe these wires are for something that my car isn't equipped with and are just extra, since I don't have A/C, just a 68 base coupe, no power anything. Can't remember why I tie-wrapped these 2 wires together. Every other wire is on my diagram, or easy to figure out where it goes. This wire is only about 6" long so there is not a whole lot of options where it could go, and there is no lug anywhere in the 6" range to plug it into. I figure I'll just terminate the small black wire under one of the small screws on the back of the tach and leave this one dangling.

A couple of pictures will really help with the spaghetti wiring on a C3.

Default Another dash question

The wire on the radio capacitor broke off at the capacitor. Question is, is this capacitor needed with an aftermarket radio. Don't want to waste time and money on it if it is no longer needed.

Not needed- especially when the caps were mainly aimed at suppressing the pops in AM radio.

And when you say aftermarket- IF you are looking a "retro" one- be careful as they have a lot of problems- just do a google search on them w/ keyword "problem"- you'll want to run.

Me- I personally like the Kenwood stuff- as I worked for them years ago.

Yeah, did a little reading up on the filters, seems they were needed for the old tube radios. I fabricated my dash to fit a single DIN stereo and it just happens to be a Kenwood.

Default Another Dash Wiring question

I was trying to figure out what this little finned piece of electronic equipment was. Couldn't find this on the wiring diagram either. Has a three wire plug on it. Was thinking it might have something to do with the original radio also, because I can't find anywhere that it could plug into.

Hi w60,
That is the 'convector assembly' that's part of the original am/fm radio.
It plugged into the back of the radio.
Regards,
Alan

Thanks, that's what I figured, just wanted to be sure before I put everything back together. Trying to get rid of all unnecessary wiring so as not to confuse myself, and since the original radio is long gone, one less piece of clutter.

No, won't throw it away, just keep it in a box with all the other removed items. Muncie 4 speed w/shifter, rear vent grills, spare tire holder, antenna mount, seats. Going to need a small storage unit to keep it all,
