Default 1981 carburetor replacement

I have an 81 that has been converted from ECM. It has a stock intake with a Rochester carb on it and I have clearance problems with air breathers. Bought a stock breather and it hits the hood. Runs rich and want adjust out and not consistent idle. So looking to change intake and carb. Looking for suggestions to eliminate or help with clearance also. Has anyone put an edelbrock intake with a quick fuel carb? Thanks!

I put a Performer RPM and a 650 Holley on mine. To use a 4" filter, you have to get one with a dropped base.

I'm running a Performer EPS, Quick fuel BD-1957 and a 3" filter on a drop base. This combo is too tight to fit as standard under a '70 base hood but I believe you have more clearance on an '81.

I'm lost. With a stock intake, Q-Jet, and stock air cleaner, you shouldn't have any hood clearance issues. I suppose the otherwise obvious question is to ask whether you have a stock hood.

stock hood but motor is not stock. I said the same thing! Why doesnt it fit? Not sure if the breather for a 78-80 is the same for an 81? I assumed it would be or close? It has a small chrome breather on it now like a 8" round? Bought a couple of others from parts house and had to take back due to clearance.

Stock 80 and 81 are the same with the exception of the chrome lid for the 81s. 80 lids are black.

Are you sure the intake is stock? I had to go to a 2" filter because of my intake. I think all rochesters are the same height but I could be wrong on that.

Im pretty sure, it looks like it. I just want to make sure I put the right intake and carb on before I swap them out and have more of a clearance problem than I do now.

Part # for a stock 81 intake is 14033058, you should be able to find behind the carb. Not being the original carb shouldn't make any difference.
