Default 9 Hole aftermarket steering wheel adaptors

Hello Gents,

I'm looking at one of these Billet half wrap steering wheels for my 72 Vette with a T +T column. I already suspect the column is not original as it has the mechanical interlock to prevent the key being removed if not in Park. My car is a Manual and has a Doug Nash 5 speed. The problem I have is finding an adaptor that works with T + T, some sites have but then state not for Corvette. Could that be to do with the spline. I guess I wont really know until I tear in down and see what parts I have. Any way appreciate any inputs from folks that have been down this route before me. Regards, Greg

I also wanted to say that I don't use the telescopic function as I'm tall and need the wheel close to the dash. I was wondering if I could lock the column down and delete the release ring then go with a some kind of standard adaptor to go from 6 bolts to the 9 bolt steering wheel. Any thoughts? Regards, Greg

I'm 6-2 and don't use the tele function either but wanted it to work anyway...I modded the stock tele lever to work with this adapter...they sell an adapter without the opening to work as you described....check the link

Thanks Jim, I ordered a wheel and adaptor, I'm not sure what the issue is with Corvettes, is the spline size different to Buick, Cadillac etc. I'll have something in a few days and will see what I can do with it to make it work. What did you modify on the adaptor shown or did you modify the release ring? Regards Greg

I modified the factory telescopic lever itself ... that's all I had to actually modify. The splines were exact as was the hub length. They also sell the tilt lever, turn lever, flasher **** in billet. I bough the steering wheel from them too since mine had the Vega wheel Billet is a pain to maintain but it's purdy. Where did your order product? If you ordered from someone else and it doesn't work...call Billet Specialties and talk to them to get the right part/parts. That way you can specify corvette etc...
Jim

Hi Jim, I bought my wheel with horn and GM adaptor on Ebay to be fair they did say the adaptor will not work with T and T but didn't exactly say why not. Its a nice wheel by Flashpower, probably from China but then most things are these days! They also have the adaptor looking just like your one although I cant see spline detail and only 10 USD cheaper than the Billet Specialties one. At least BS probably know their products as to what will and what wont work. Regards Greg

I understand..... I dug out my receipt for part number....not sure if our year models are same though. Let me know if you need pictures of the lever I modded.....pretty straight forward though.
Jim

EDIT: Sorry!!! 17 years ago and I'd forgotten some details. I used this company Lecarra Steering Wheels...2" travel corvette F-64ACP/GM/TELE/2" Travel.....Item #26404 Lecarra Steering Wheels. I did get the wheel and levers from Billet Specialties....so sorry!!!
http://www.lecarra.com/domestic-hubs.shtml

I also bought from Lecarra same day, #3991 GM Horn Button Clip $5, and #3991 10/32 1" polished Allen w/nuts included with hub I guess no charge on invoice. Bolts were to hold wheel to hub.

EDIT: Found an invoice 7 days later 2/8/00 must have had a problem! Ordered part number F-64P Top Lock/Tele 67 & on #64207 $67.50, & Billet Lockdown Lever #TELELEVER $15
I have a note written on invoice "F64CLP #26403" that looks to be the three inch travel....I recall that when telescoped, the 2" revealed the inner column and I had to get the 3" travel one. So, I would call them...

Okay ..... for all I know, the Billet Specialties Hub may actually work and Lecarra may be a moot point. How time flies.
Jim

Here's a picture of the tele lever.. It's simply what left of the old "ring" flipped...pictured also.
