Default How many of you Trick Flow guys have leaking valve stem seals?

I noticed a few posts where guys stated they had problems with them and had to replace the seals. I noticed it on all three engines I have had them on. I am getting a lot of smoke on start up now and noticed a lot of oil on the threads of the plugs at last change. Just wondering just how common this is on new Trick Flow Alum 23 deg heads.

BTW any suggestions for good seals? I am going to replace the springs and seals when I transfer the heads on to a 383.

Had to replace all guides and seals in my Gen 1 TFs. I also had two springs break on me before I replaced all springs.
Aside from that, they were great performers.

How can you tell what gen the heads are? I see them on ebay all the time and will be getting a set for my car, just curious how I could tell...

To order the correct valve stem seals you would need to know the valve stem diameter, most likely its 11/32. Also you need to know the outside diameter of the valve guide. With these two figures you should be able to get positive seals that lock down over the guide and stay down. The umbrella seals that ride up and down with the valve stem are prone to leaking. I switched from umbrella seals to positive locking seals on my cast iron heads and cured a qt every 200miles plug fouling oil controll problem. Positive locking seals are the way to go. Its a matter of getting the ones that fit yur particular valve guides and stems.

My twisted wedge trick flows had a habit of popping the valve stem seals off the guides...so I replaced the originally installed ones with a set from Crane.
So far so good.

Wonder why TFS has not addressed this already. It would seem that they would have heard of this problem already. I hope that this doesn`t happen to mine. I haven`t even had the chance to run them yet.

I wonder does it have anything to do with the size of the cam? I am running an XE262 Comp Cam.
