Interesting Jim. That member here from Finland with the really nice 65 I gather he did a bunch of mods under the car but with much less horsepower than you. I guess you proved that with enough power you can plow through the aerodynamic drag to a great extent.

True. He did some great testing and aero work underneath, angled bumpers for down force etc. It took him several shots to get there and aero is what pushed him over. He has a 427 small block with a load of N20.

Mine was just sloppy 'ole HP!

Just imagine what you could do with a bunch of aero work and if you could get some bigger tires under the car!

No doubt. There's more in it if I made the power work to its potential.

There's some finesse to all of this. Being my first time at this event...and seeing how my experience with these new tires was backing it out of the shop and loading it on the trailer the night before....I had some learning to do.

With limited traction...it's all about walking that fine line up through 180+ MPH! I could add some wheel speed sensors and utilize the EFI and timing control to ramp in power...but where's the fun in that??

Great job on hitting 200 mph. How was the handling without all the aero work? I know all the new cars have panels under the car to keep the air from lifting the car at speed.

I don't mind data acquisition, have used it, but I don't like electronics doing the driver's job. There,s always that fine line of the limits of traction that the driver needs to deal with in high HP land speed racing, especially in places like El Mirage where you race on dirt. One of my customers I worked with was always ***** to the wall and throwing big rooster tails with his Harley sit on land speed bike at El Mirage and Murac. He would run 170 to 175 and couldn't go faster, although he still set several records. One time he moved his foot pegs and on a run he started getting his foot barbecued because it was right behind the exhaust pipe, so he let off the throttle some and ran 182 and change. It was the fastest record ever for a naturally aspirated gas motorcycle of any brand at El Mirage. It wasn't until the Hayabusa came out that a naturally aspirated bike beat him by a couple MPH. You would think he would have learned something from letting off and going faster, but he did not. It was frustrating working with him.

I should add, if I would have put traction control on this customer's bike, he would have probably set more records far beyond his riding ability.

Point is I think all forms of racing should be the driver/rider in control and not electronics!

200mph in 1 mile in a C2. You have dome stones! Very nice.

Hadn't had a chance to check back in on this thread in a while. Congrats on hitting your mark, and I love the look of the car with the new wheels and tires. Now, get that hot rod back to the drag strip!
