Default Aluminum Intake Question-BB 454

I am looking for an oval port aluminum intake for my 72' BB Corvette. Is anyone using this GM intake- 12363420,this a new still in production unit and works with a QJ, does it clear the hood and can I use my stock air cleaner assmbly? I attached a picture of my engine and the intake for reference. This intake says RPM range is 1500-6000,which should work well for BB guys if it clears Thanks for the time Rich

I think that's a re-branded Edelbrock Performer RPM. It won't fit under the stock hood.

pretty much the only aluminum intake, that fits a BB is the original oem aluminum intake.

I spoke with Edelbrock & they told me the only intake they make that fits under the hood is their Torker II. I installed it on my 71, 454 & still had to adapt an aftermarket air cleaner. There's not much room under there.
Take some silly putty and place in on top of the cleaner. Close the hood & measure.

Fwiw,
My 454 came with a tokker 2 and the guy gave me a performer, saying the performer wouldnt fit under the hood,
I didnt like what seemed like lack of low end, i installed the performer and man did it wake up low end,
Wasnt there a factory dual plane that fit under tge hood?

Stock or LS6 square bore. I went with the LS6 and a .5 inch spacer.

My head's are oval bit still made great power with it.

How about modifying the LS6 intake to fit oval ports-can this be done? Or,in the post above (The13bats) says the Performer fits his car-is that the original Performer, not the Performer RPM? Rich

The LS6 intake is also square bore flange for a Holley carb.... You can modify the ports with epoxy or welding to better match with oval port heads but at most street cars power level it's a waste of time.

The early 68-72 cars have very little room under the hood with a BBC.... even the factory LT1/BB hoods are really short. You can fit a BBC Performer intake.... There is a member on here that has one and I saw pics when I helped him find a different air cleaner assembly.... but you'll need a really deeply dropped base air cleaner assembly. I don't think that GMPP intake or the Performer RPM would go under any early hood except the L88.

The 73 and later long style stock hoods have more room. You can fit a BBC Performer RPM under one of them no problem.... I saw this thread a few years ago and saved the link.

Sorry if i confused that, my point was those open plenum intakes kill low end power where i wanted it in a street cruiser but no, the performer wouldnt fit under my hood, 73 front clip and hood on my 69, i believe it would might have fit with a drop base cleaner but i knew i was going l88 hood, just seems factory should have made a nice intake...

OK guys, next question. What about going to the 390hp 427 intake over the stock ls5 unit-any advantage there? I am planning on larger valve ported heads and I believe an xe268h cam upgrade. Not concerned about the weight, just a better intake over mine- and still want to use my rochester. Thanks Rich
