Did you bleed the air out of the system and adjust the power steering ram(control valve)?

You need to balance your control valve. I know about this problem because I am currently going throug the same thing. After I rebuilt my control valve,(didn't stop the leaking) I had to balance it after it had the same symptoms that you are describing. :smash: :smash: :smash:

Re: Power Steering on a 78 (Bobchad)
I have the same problem with my '81. I replaced the steering cylinder, control valve, power steering pump and hoses all at the same time. All of the parts (except hoses) were rebuilt. I purchased the parts from Muskegon Brake.
The steering is fine when I go straight. However, the steering feels vague and the car has a tendency to wander when I take curves at highway speeds. The control valve is centered. Also, I had the front end and rear trailing arms aligned, but this didn't help.
At this point I wish I left the old leaky power streering components on the car. At least the steering worked properly. I assume the fact that the steering worked fine before I installed the components precludes a problem with the steering box.
Anyone got any ideas?

Hey guys, guess what. My PS control valve went south also. I am picking up the new one tomorrow. I'll let you know how the install goes.
