It took a long time, but finally....
It took about 3 weeks, but I finally got my vette back yesterday. For those who don't remember, my old engine had a rod knocking, so I decided to build a new engine.
Waiting was the hard part. You may have noticed that I made it into the top-ten list of posters several times in the last few weeks; I was bored and in vette withdrawal.
Now I have to wait some more:cry , to break the engine in, before I can have some fun.
Here are a few pictures of the engine rebuild. I didn't add any chrome parts, or dress up items. The money I saved from buying those things went inside the engine, where it counts. I can always add chrome or other dress-up stuff later if I decide to.
Pro Torker heads, 67cc, 2.02/1.60 valves, Isky springs (up to .550 lift)
Balanced rods and pistons. Pistons are .030 over, 9.5:1 comp.
View of pistons during assembly
Final product. Engine is not this color. It is a darker blue
I have driven it a few miles, and I love the deep rumble it now has. It's very smooth on acceleration. I just hope it has the performance I'm looking for when I lay into it for the first time.
Engine Buildup
87' 350
Bored .030 over, balanced, 9.5:1 compression
Crane Powermax - .454/.480, 272/284, matching lifters
Cloyes D.R. timing chain
Melling hi-volume oil pump
Pro Action Torker heads, cast, manley 2.02/1.60, 67cc, ported by MountainMotor to flow mid 180's
Edelbrock Performer 2101 intake
B&M Holeshot 2000
3.70 gears
TH350
I expect about 300hp from this current setup. Later, I will add headers, 670cfm Holley Street Avenger, MSD ignition. 350hp should be possible
