Yes . whether it is legal is another thing.
the 78 frame still has two hole through the crossmember allowing for an easy dual exhaust conversion. All you have to do is buy a kit for a pre catyltic convertor C3

Sure can, I put mine on in 79 and I am under restoration now and they are still good. The legality of the converters and your state is another question.

By reconfigure I mean installing a convertor into a non factory location or installing dual convertors on a dual system. The only reason so many do it is one of.
a>the state has no emissions testing...no testing = no chance of being caught
b>the user knows a friendly smog person who overlooks it
c> the person swaps out a legal system for testing purposes

Move to New Zealand... Did my 77 with twin exhausts and it sounds real sweet.:chevy:

Several vendors sell complete dual exhaust systems. They bolt together, but my car vibrates too much and the clamps wouldn't stay tight. I had it all welded together, but now I have to cut it to remove the crossmember. I have 9.4:1 compression, a mild cam and flowmasters and it sounds too sweet. Florida has no emissions checks, so you will be ok.
