Are you running 295-50R15's? Will they fit?
I have run 265-50's on 8 inch wheels without any trouble. 295-50's look like they would be pretty tight. Especially on the rear near the parking brake bracket. Has any one run 295-50's on 8 inch wheels? This is a '78. Comments?

This is a set of 305 TA radials on my 75. I did remove the emergency brake tab and also installed offset trailing arms.

They fit on mine, you have to do something with the trailing arm ebrake bracket or you will cut the tire down :D

I have them on 8" wheels on the back of my '79. They are on there with 1/4" aluminum spacers (not my design ) to clear the e-brake bracket.

I ran mine for a year on the stock alloys and stock T-arms with no clearance issues what so ever. Switched to offset arms and 9" Welds this spring for a change in appearance. I thaught the sidewalls looked a bit pinched,so I ordered 10" rims and had to trade them in for 9". The 10's stuck out past the fenderwell, the 9" rims are perfect. (Had to run 1" adaptors and order 5 1/2"BS rims)

Norval.....what size wheels are those 305's on? And do you have a rear sway bar? I have 295's right now on 8 in ralleys. I have offset trailing arms but the tire will rub slightly on the sway bar when cornering hard. I would love to fit an even wider tire in if I can. Mabey I can have my sway bar "narrowed".

I'm puzzled about the running of 295/50s on 8" rims.
I'm running them on 10" rims and they could probably use another 0.50" of rim width.
Mine are Dunlops......over 12" of tread wide.
What brands are you guys using on 8" wheels? How much tread width?

Im running BFG radial TA's. 295 50's on 8 inch wheels. On the guide provided by the tire company they list an 8 inch wheel as the narrowist rim that the tire will fit on properly. I wider rim though would probably handle a little better.

Thank you for all the information, everyone. The tires I'm considering are Goodyear Eagle GTII's. They (Goodyear) state that the 295/50 will fit on wheel widths from 7.5" to 11". It sounds like they will fit. I may have to relocate the e-brake brackets but that isn't a big deal. I'll get some pics when I get them.

If you want the wheels to be centered in the wheel well I feel you need offset trailing arms. Sure you can fit any size wheel but it will hang out the side. To get an offset that pushes the wheel almost against the inside frame rail to keep it inside the outer fender it would rub on the stock trailing arm regardless of the emergency brake bracket.

71 vettman. I have 8.5 inch centerlines with 5 inches of back spacing. I do not run a rear sway bar, I have offset trailing arms and I also have a shorter rear spring, easy to modify a stock main leaf.
My 305's fit under the fender, do not rub on the frame but close. In the picture the top and bottom strut rods are disconnected so the wheel sticks out a little. I have a six link.

Nice setup. Ill have to keep it in mind for the future. I have a mono spring right now so I might have problems with it hitting the tire. theyre pretty close with the 295's. Thanks

I've seen some good press on the 295/50-15 Toyo Proxes S/T. I'm planning to purchase a pair over the winter.
