How do you guys heat your garage in the winter?
Short of setting fire to the Olds, does anyone have heating tricks they'd share to heat a 24x24 garage. Tried a 24000 btu kerosene heater, but it kind of worriies me when using solvents and paint to have a flame source so close.
Getting cold and I don't like cold!

I have one of those jet kerosene heaters. It works really well. My garage is not very air tight so it vents pretty good. Takes about 20 minutes to get the garage of to temp from a 20 degree start.

I have a 70,000btu natural gas furnace. It is mounted from the ceiling and vented out the wall. I have a power switch so I can shut it down when I'm not using it, and being ceiling mounted means that a few stray gas fumes won't get ignited by it since they stay close to the floor.

C'mon, it's not that cold in Fayette county
I have a 24x30 garage which I insulated. I use a kerosene heater and never had a problem with it. just make sure it is well ventilated

That's a easy one find a old mobile home/trailer and get the furnace out of it.Easy to work on and set up and no fumes.

I use a 4000w 240v fan-forced unit, similar to the ones you see in the foyers of buildings or stores. Works awesome in my insulated and weather-proofed garage.

I've got a 85K BTU ceiling mounted propane furnace. I've also got a 55K BTU Ready Heater (jet type kerosene) that I used to use. For someone on a budget they work great. They're also loud enough that you can't here the wife yell for you. I've painted with mine before, just get the place warm then shut it down. Don't direct it at the stuff you're painting though. When you first fire one up sometimes a very small amount of kerosene will come out and then whatever you're painting will have a bunch of "fish eyes" staring back at you. :D

I'm using a 40K propane heater. It's inexpensive and does a nice job. It's very simple, just a sheet metal cylinder w/ a large burner inside. I just saw newer models at HD... My garage is insulated.

I just eat 3-4 cans of jalpaleno beans no more than 20 minutes prior to my garage time. Of course, it rarely gets very cold down here and the bigger challenge is COOLING your garage from May to September.

I also use a propane sheet metal "can" that goes to 80,000 btu. At full power it's a bit loud (sounds like I'm working inside a jet exhaust), but all that means is no neighbors can hear me cussin' when I brash my knuckles taking off parts. It heats the garage to t-shirt temps in about 15 minutes. I got it from Amazon.com. Think it cost me $120.

I can always tell myself that it's heat from the gas water heater's chimney
But it's most likely from poor house insulation and leaky ductwork

I have an attached garage.
Doesn't get down to freezing so I just went with a thermostant controlled 5000v 240v Dayton ceiling mount electric heater.
On a 25 degree nights like its been the last few days, it comes on every few hours for literally a minute or two to maintain the 60 degrees I have the unit set at..
Was going to go with a gas Modine Hot Dawg but the $1800 install price was too much.
I went with the Dayton $300 unit.It will take me over 10 years to make up the difference with extra expense of electric over gas and the install price for the Modine.Plus no fume or venting worries.
That Modine unit sure is nice tho.
