Help troubleshoot my "other Chevrolet" (not starting).
I have a '77 Camaro (my first car) that sat parked for 15 at my parent's house. A couple of months ago, my dad started bringing it back to life. It has a new alternator, new fuel pump, new Edelbrock 600 CFM carburetor w/ electric choke, rebuilt brakes, master cylinder and TH-350 transmission. New plugs, wires, battery, etc.
It ran fine (except for a leaking/sticking exhaust valve) for about 150 miles. Started no problem. Choke worked OK, etc. Now it won't run. It cranks OK and sounds like it wants to run but it doesn't start. Spark was good (at the #3 plug) and the fuel pump is working fine.
After trying off and on for about 30 seconds, the engine quits wanting to run and it just sits there and cranks. It won't even light off on ether. After a while, I smell a strong fuel odor but I can't believe that a float would be sticking on a new carb. The fuel looks clean and I have a new filter installed.
Any ideas?

did you try to jump start it? battery may be just low enough to not get her to fire. check your charging to see if you have enough volts coming in and the battery to see if it holding the charge. :steering:

Did you try pulling a plug or two to see what they look like? Might be way out of tune and fouled the plugs.

to run, engine must have following, so all you can do is start the drill, and begin eliminating suspect items one by one.
1) Spark
2) Fuel
3) Air
4) Proper spark timing
5) Proper valve timing
6) Compression
If you have verified all 6 above, and have a good fully charged battery, and good starter, then you should be able to start and run the engine.

I aggree with 'johns81Mouse' If it has all six items, it has to run. It cannot not run. I'd check to see if it jumped time. set up No.1 cyl at TDC and look at where the dist rotor is pointing?

Pull a few of your plugs, clean them off and put back it..... I suspect they are gas fouled.... get 3 or four easy to get sparkplugs cleaned and reinstalled..... try it again. It will fire but will run nasty until you get the other plugs cleaned by running the engine.
Keep your foot to the floor! It will fire... I've had this happen to the vette a couple of times.
