1979 fuel pump question
I'm currently in the midst of an engine swap. I planned to use a new Holley mechanical fuel pump but what do I do with the fuel return line from the stock pump?
Thanks

I did just what you are thinking of. I used a mopar style inline filter that has a third connection. It has an inlet on one side and and outlet on the other + a third connection. I installed the filter in the line between the fuel pump and carb. The third connection is used to run a hose back down to the return line. Discount parts stores usually have these filters hanging on a rack so you can pick thru and find what might work for you. Its worked great for me.

I'm just going to plug my return line. My shop manual shows thats just a vapor return line to the gas tank and not a recirculation, bypass, or pressure relief line. Don't suspect its a SMOG issue either but a visit to a SMOG station may answer your question. In any case the line is not required for my Carter pump.
I'll let my holley regulator control pressure for my carb.. Connecting an additional line to carb could really drop pressure. Don't see any kind of consistant regulation either. :nono:
