Default Dart Pro 1 heads, and head porting question

I'm looking at a set of Dart Pro 1 200cc heads. I was originally looking at AFR 195's, but these seem close in performance and less money (used), and they are also the exact combustion chamber size that I need, and straight plugs. The seller says that they have been "slightly ported", and that "there is one spot about 1/4" x 1/2" on an intake runner which was patched with epoxy when the intake runners were ported. (I'm told that this is common when porting the intakes)".

Is that true? What do you guys think is a good price for these? They are fully assembled with Manley SS valves, Crane springs, Titanium retainers & locks, Isky two piece guidplates and screw in 7/16" studs. Bare castings go for $840 a pair new.

Thanks,
Jerry

If the area that is epoxied is where the pushrod goes along side the intake port then this is somewhat common. Just be sure the repair is done properly and the epoxy is not coming loose. If it is anywhere else then stay away from the heads.

The Dart Pro 1 head is a much better head than the AFR. Just be sure that who ever ported it knew what they where doing. An amateur port job can ruin good port flow and velocity.

I was thinking about bidding on these heads too. However, the price is climbing and I think I'm going to upgrade the exhaust first instead. I think I need to figure out my cam and pistion spec's first. See pictures that I received. If anyone knows how to figure cam lift and piston spec's without removing heads and pulling the cam, let me know. See my string.http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=499591

Yep, the epoxy is on the pushrod hole. I really want these heads, mainly because of my lack of money for new heads, the lack of good used aluminum heads with the specs I need, and the fact that summer is approaching and I still have a lot to do. But I don't know how much I should pay. They're at $710 right now, plus $40 shipping. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....

Thanks for the repies, everyone!

Yeah, $790 was too high for me. It would be another $40 to ship, and then I'd still have to pay to have them drilled out for 7/16" studs, and buy the studs. For a couple hundred more I can buy them new.

Oh, well... maybe I'll find a set of AFR's soon. :(

That Evil-bay price went too high and at the price they went for I'd "feel" better with new.
