Adding L98 heads. How should I finish the valve covers ??
I am amazed at what a crappy casting these L98 vavle covers are. I have finished media blasting them, now I need to decide how to finish them. I have given thought to :
1. OEM light grey color.
2. Black with sanded center ribs
3. Wrinkle finish entire cover.
Not sure its worth the time to polish this set up, they are pretty fugly.

Here's what my L98 heads look like with the valve covers on:
You're probably saying ... those aren't center bolts? Actually they are. I bought a conversion kit from Summit: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=33254
They look great but the alternator bracket is pretty tight!

If you just want to get it done and still look clean, go for a satin black finish with a slight orange peel, otherwise, do the prep and paint 'em gloss black.

I have used that wrinkle finish paint on my LT-1/L-82 covers with some sucess. I am thinking that I will do a satin black of some sort.
Those adapters from summit are $100, that is more than I wanted to spend for something like that..thanks for the tip though.

I repainted mine the factory color. I like that look with the orange block. I noticed yours has a twist on oil fill. Mine has a screw on oil fill. Were they different for different years or just a different supplier?

aren't those things made of magnesium ???
Becareful if you decide to polish them with a buffer as magnesium catches fire easily won't be put out until it's done burning everything.
