Default Fastburn Heads - aluminum vs. cast iron

I am wondering, aside from the obvious weight advantage of the aluminum heads, what is the benefit from using an aluminum head instead of a similarly assembled iron head?

You need to read this
http://www.chevyhiperformance.com/techarticles/83858/

Their Conclusion:We still believe that iron heads have the ability to make more horsepower than aluminum heads, but we also think that the difference is probably less than an average of 5 lb-ft of torque. Given this, the power difference is slight enough that other variables can contribute as well. In this case, the two sets of heads were not identical enough to reveal the basic inherent advantage of the iron heads.

Good article...
You can run higher compression with aluminium in the pump gas area without detonation.
The less weight = better handling.... more hp to weight ratio.
I think if cast iron was the hot set up the new generation hi performance engines would all use them...they don't. :flag

Yes agreed but at minumum $1200.00 I can do better with a set of Dart heads. Weight is not an issue on a C3, detonation can be contained with timing adjustments etc. etc.

Hell I'd spend the $1500.00 just for the shiny polished sides of the heads and lettering on the AFR heads I am going to get. but I'm **** like that.

:D

...yes but less timing = less performance...less cylinder pressure...less torque...hell, less everything.
