hudman, the 270 is a great cruisin cam for a BB 427. That motor has the guts down end to make up for the bigger cam. For streetable , even with automatic trans and stock convertor, the 270 is a great choice for a 427. for those who are listining, with a 350 its a different story. You need a 2500 stall to get the best out of a Magnum 270. Heck, i put a 2500 behind a stock L48 and it helped the car emensly. Knocked off 4 tenths in the 1/4 with the stock L48 cam.

270 Mag is a great cam, with the right setup. MotorHead steered me in the right direction about 6 months ago when I considered this cam. I have a 10:1 355 ci, with TrickFlow heads etc. etc...and this cam idles nice (15 in vac) and will run fine at 1200 RPM in the neighborhood. And BOY does it come on after 4500 RPM!! Idle sounds good, but not really very rough at all. The key to this cam is the 110 degree lobe sep., which gives that great idle and the mid-range torque boost. Crane uses 112 deg. lobe sep, which helps vacuum at idle, but slightly "degrades" the nice killer idle sound. I have never been disappointed with Comp Cams!! Your automatic application, however, will require a looser stall converter, and better heads to really take advantage of the cam. Without good flowing heads (180 - 200 cc intake ports), the true benefit of the cam will not be realized.
