Default Estimated Value of 1980 vette?

A buddy of mine called me the other to go look at a 1980 vette he had looked at. I took a look at it and it seems to look pretty decent. Here is a basic overview:
85,000 miles, T-Tops, car is white and has a nice paint job, frame looks clean, original suspension, Turbo 350, original 350, air, interior is fair but is worn, original wheels, drives nice still.
With these in mind what would a good value for this car be?

Remember this is a very old car, never buy unless you have it inspected by a pro that knows old vettes. Price will vary big time ( $2,500 to $15,000) for an 1980. These vettes will never be a valuable collectors car to many built and no racing history. If you like the style that is great. Remember they are just an old rusty car.. :lolg: :lolg:

OUCH!! :mad All in due time my friend, all in due time . . .

Remember that it's only money and anything can be fixed with a little hard work and time. If you want an old vette that doesn't need fixin', you're gonna pay some big $$$.

As far as the value of a 1980 goes, vette_c5c6 is right . . . I've seen them go for anywhere from $1500 for a pile of parts to around $20k for one in mint condition. :chevy

Goodluck.

Sounds like $6-8k if the interior is worn. I would expect very few flaws for anything more.

Prices vary wildly by region. For example, down here they're more expensive than in other parts.

Just tell us how much and we'll either :lolg: or :U

I was going to say $8,500 but realized I paid $8,300 about six years ago for one with 95k miles. I'd offer $7,500 but that is assuming the body is in excellent condition and the quality is good.

Expect to put another $7,500 in it over next two years replacing all of the parts that WILL fail after 23 years...

If you want to spend a little more, get one with lower mileage or more new parts.

Got mine two years ago for 6,000.00. Paints in nice shape. Check the underside for rust on the frame, see if theres any oil dripping from the tranny or the rear. Ive been pretty lucky . Mine had 140,000 miles on it and it seems to run like a clock... :flag

Got mine for $3997 (found $3 in change under seats) needs interior and electrical. New tires, engine and paint and body in good shape. Front end, rear axle, and tranny just re-done. Basically all I need to do is the rear suspension and interior and I will have a straight ride, but who wants basic stuff, I want more. :flag

What would it hurt to low-ball? If your friend has the cash (7-8k), offer the guy 5k? What can the do beside say no can't go that low? Then ask what were you thinking? I'm as cheap as they come it's worth a try.

Well he is pretty close then.
The guy is asking $8500.00.
I will let him know what your thoughts were.
Thanks.

I think you're only partially right. Given time, they will gain collector status. In fact, you will see pricing start to creep as we type. Fewer of them around and those that are have often been completely gone through while your generation slowly gets trashed and drops in value.

Just my .02 :D

Default 2021 & how about this ?? Your all wrong LOL, I bet you wish you bought that car then

Massachusetts Registry Of Motor Vehicles valve 1980 Corvettes from $11,700..-$41,200. period. Mine is valued for $19,800. with my insurance company. They valued, not me. Who ever said there not ever gonna be a valued collector car it a total moron...obviously as each year that goes by there's less & less around.. finding quality used parts are almost extinct... Happy 2021 ya'll 😂

Values vary a lot!
lol I paid $2,700 for my 74 and drove it home but barely... It needed a lot of work. Found about $25 in it including a chrismas card from the PO's grandmother with $20 still stuffed inside dated like 8 years earlier.. the bubble window years seem to sell for less around here. Ive seen some pretty nice looking ones in peoples yards for between $6,000-$8000 and ones in need of paint and who knows what for considerably less... My uncle scored a nice 76 for a boat that I sold him for $1,700.. PO had ripped a lot out of it like the heating system in an attempt to turn it into a drag racer but its in good shape otherwise and a 4spd. Right now a quick search on facebook puts that majority of the c3s from the 77 to 81 model year around shows $3,000 to the most expensive 81 being $14,000 with 69,000 original miles and looks very well maintained..
EDIT damnit someone resurrected another necrothread..

and you will only ever get that kind of money from the insurance company in most cases... This is way so much insurance fraud exists with classic cars. My 74 was appraised at a much higher price than I could ever realistically expect to get from it as well. Hell I had a huge issue when I sold my 84 corvette because I traded it for a boat and the DWV said I have to pay tax on the 9800 "value" they had listed for the 84 vette in a trade. even though after buying it for $8300 13 years earlier, I had been trying to sell it for $4200 for a year without sucess! ended up having to "Buy" the boat and have the other guy "buy" my vette to get around it.. now you can drive an 84 home for under 3 grand in many cases. its true the c3 will ALL climb in value but its going to be a long slow climb. and even longer for the c4's

Heres a customized 78 with only 27k on it for under 12grand.. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...code=undefined
