TRW spring and bouncy shocks?
I have a new TRW 340 spring-not installed yet. I bought new Monroe Sensa-tracs because that is what was on the car and they ride very nice with the 7 leaf steel spring. Another forum member said that his rode bouncy with old Sensa-tracs and a new TRW spring. I refuse to spend almost $300 for a set of Bilsteins. Anyone else have any experience with the TRW spring? Thanks.....

I don't have any experience with the spring but the Bilsteins are well worth $300 a set. Once you try them you'll wonder why you waited so long.

That seems to be the nature of those beasts, and thus the reason why VB sells their composite with Bilsteins. When I get around this fall to my body off, the steel 7 leaf comes off, and the original shocks get replaced as well to work with the new TRW composite spring.

I had KYBs with a TRW spring a few years ago and had the bouncy ride. Now with a new 340 TRW and Bilsteins, the ride is amazing. I think they're worth the $. It's a Corvette... it deserves only the best.

I agree with the comments re Bilsteins. If your budget doesn't permit four, just buy them for the rear. Remember that Bilsteins can be revalved at the factory after 40 or 50 thousand miles for about half the cost of new so, if you do this, they're not quite so expensive.
Also shop the net for pricing on Bilsteins - try shox.com.
I've run the Bilsteins Xtremes and Sports and the Sports are great. Right now I'm running KYB-GR2s for a softer ride.

I have a TRW 330 spring on the back of my 79. When I installed it the instructions said to install new Gas shocks instead of hydraulic and I went with the GM gas shocks. Car has ridden perfectly since I changed. :chevy

I have the TRW 340 spring with KYB gas shocks and you do get a bouncy ride. I looked at the Vette Brakes and Products catalog and they list KYB shocks that are especially valved for the fiberglass springs. They're supposed to stop the bounciness. Here's the link to their page. The shocks are only $30 apiece and you might be able to get away with just the rears. http://www.vettebrakes.com/

The instructions that came with mine recommended gas shocks. I went with Koni Adjustables. the ride is great. Probably a little too soft on the softest setting for some taststes, but they can be tightened up. But, you absolutely do need to get gas shocks with a composite spring.... A fiend of mine has KYBs. They seem to allow more bounce than the Konis, from the outside anyway!
