Need advice on installing rear spindle
I'm having trouble getting the spindle through the inner bearing :mad I even tried putting the old bearing on the spindle but it's too tight!!! Any one have any ideas on this, I might take it to work tomorrow and polish the spindle bearing area down a couple ten thousands (.0002) it shouldn't damage the hardness any, other than than that I'm stuck :smash:

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe the spindle needs to be pressed on. I would not go polishing that bearing down any until you verify whether this is true or not.

Shane is correct. Both the inner and outer bearings are pressed on. This is why it is such a pain working on the bearings.
I personally have slip fit inner bearings. Chuck the spindle in a lathe then polish with emery paper.
Some don't agree with this but I like to make future servicing easier.

I was hoping someone else tried polishing the spindle for a "slip fit", I know it don't sound right but it just won't fit :banghead:

Nick, I press fit both bearings. I use a piece of EMT to make a sleeve to fit over the bearing inner race and a 20 ton press to assemble.
