Rick Bizzoco's '69 Stingray Guidebook says, "All big blocks had a 5-blade fan constructed of a central fram with a triangular extension for each blade." But my AIM clearly shows the 427 engine with a 7 blade fan (pg. J354 in the AIM). I read somewhere else (I think) that the BBs with air cond. had a 7-blade fan. Anybody got the straight poop?

Mine is seven blade. I just checked the AIM. In the C-60 section they clearly show different fan and P/N.

Mine is a 7-blade... '69 Vert BB, AC... but I'm switching to a permacool 2950cfm electric unit. I hear they are the best bang for the buck. Summit Racing has a nice lightweight 7-blade that flows 50% more ait with less drag if you are wanting to stay stock looking. :chevy

I believe it was the A/C equipped cars that had the 7 blade fan.

At least my 1969 L36 did .

The fan that is in my 1969 427/390HP L-36 convertible is a 5 blade fan.
I can't tell you 100% that it is the original fan but it sounds like AC cars had 7 blades and non-ac cars had 5 blades.

That's it exactly.

During 1969, those cars with factory installed air conditioning received a seven blade fan (along with the appropriate fan clutch) in place of the five blade fan used on non air conditioned car. There is some conjecture as to whether all of the small block/C-60 cars received this fan/clutch arrangement (the vast majority did), but the big block cars most certainly did.

While the five blade fans carry no identification, the seven blade fans carry a part number and an alpha numeric date code on engine compartment side of one of the blades. Original fan clutches are also dated on the circumference of the water pump mounting flange... It should be easy enough to determine if these dates are in line with the assembly date of the engine/car.

One word of caution... The AIM is an outstanding tool for determining what part goes where, but occasionally part numbers and illustrations aren't accurate... Especially in regard to the illustrations.

I'll let you know Larry. After just a quick flip through, I'm pretty impressed. TONS of pictures and very detailed descriptions of parts & where they go, lots of numbers for parts, etc. A real PITA to find a copy, though. It's no longer available through all the usual places (Amazon, etc), and you can't buy a used copy for love or money. Even Bizzoco's own webpage is gone. I got it through Crane's Corvette Supply--it was literally the only place I could find that still had copies. Their number is 1-800-597-4132. They get $69.95 for it.
