HELP, speedometer cable leaking ATF?
Well, the 406 is nearly ready to fire up, but my transmission is being wierd.
After draining the pan and removing the torque converter, I cleaned everything up and reassembled. I put 7qts of Redline High Temp ATF in for starters and noticed that fluid was coming from a break in my lower speedometer cable. I took the cable off and it stopped.....
I got a new cable, installed it, and there was a small puddle under the car this morning...
If I take the cable off it stops leaking. Any ideas?
I have an o-ring seal and a gear sleeve seal ordered that should be here tommarow, but will I have to drain the fluid again to fix the seal? At $9 a quart I would like to lose as little as possible...
Could it be anything else?
Thanks in advance!

Re: HELP, speedometer cable leaking ATF? (VETDRMS)
You should be able to replace the seal without losing too much fluid. I've done mine twice (I KNEW I should have replaced the sleeve and not just the seal the first time) and only lost a few ounces of ATF either time.
