Re: quadrajet rebuild kit (camaroneil)
Make a little stand for the carb by putting 4- 4 inch carriage bolts through a board in the same orientaion as the holes through which the carb is bolted to the manifold. Thread a nut down on each one so that you can place the carb on the bolts as if they were the 4 bolts that bolt it to the manifold. The trick is that with the carb on the bolts you can work the thottle linkage while you are working on it. This little stand is a great help.
Just take your time on the rebuild and be organized. Us a tray inder the stand and you will not loose any small parts. I did it for the first time about 11/2 years ago and it turned out great. Also consider Doug Roe's book on Rochester carbs. Good luck

:iagree: I've found that laying each part down on a towel as you remove them is a great help. The terrycloth of the towel keeps the parts from rolling around and ending up on the floor, and you can lay them out in the order you took them off, which makes it easier to put them all back in the right order.

while you got the energy to rebuild it, be sure to adjust it as well.
I cant count how many times i've heard someone say that they rebuild their quadrajet and it still ran like crap, then they start claiming that quadrejets are junk. So i ask them if they adjusted it up after they rebuilt it; usually they say "uh....you can adjust them?"
Yep....yep you can. In fact i'd say most carbs that are rebuilt dont even need rebuilt, they just need an adjustment here or there.

Ya don't loose any parts, work in an area that is not cluttered so if you drop something on the floor it will be easier to find.

Re: quadrajet rebuild kit (Boofers)
it's running ok ish,
it's just the gaskets look a bit tired,
would the fact that the temp is only going up to about a quarter affect the wot?????
i notice there's a vacuum pipe going to the top flaps on the secondaries,
it feels about the same acceration when cold as when hot,

Re: quadrajet rebuild kit (camaroneil)
My carb needs to be rebuilt, I also have a kit. But from what I have read from this forum, I'm sending my carb to Lars. He is supposed to be the Q-Jet man. I know I can rebuild it and it should work, but he knows the little stuff to look for that most of us don't know what to look for. I think he's worth the money, because if you screw it up (and that's very possible for all of us) your S.O.L.... Just my $0.02 worth...

You might want to think about buying the book "Rochester CArburetors", by Doug Roe. (Available from NCRS I know, and maybe places like Chaters, here in the UK) It's the "all you need to know", and very detailed.
And, as has been said, lay everything out carefully, and preferably, take digital pics of everything BEFORE you unbolt anything!
Good luck.
