Seems America agrees with you fauxers, high bid was only $7k, below the reserve.

True, but I think this guy needs to try a more "collector" savy site instead of fleabay. No one in there right mind would pay $7k for a 86 with 82miles unless they knew they could win some awards because it is an extremely rare car.

Yes they are real there where 50 made, they where made in honor of Malcolm Konner who had died in late 1983 he was the first big and real Corvette dealer, at the time the car was made they where the largest Corvette dealer. They had started selling Corvettes in it's own seperate show room way back in 1958 and kept it thet way untill they went out of busness in late 1995. The paint was special silverbeige over black with graphite int. a plack on the console and special decal inside front and rear emblems. Also if you had purchesed the car before they where built you got a trip to the plant for a plant delivery and rally back to ther dealership in Paramus, N.J., a jacket and sweater and that was about that.

Damn that thing is ugly. You can polish a turd all you want, but it's still a turd.

GM let Konner Chevrolet order 50 of these cars to pay honor to a
man that did a lot for the Corvette.
If you think he was only a trivial man, and you never heard of him,
you are obviously too young to appreciate what he did.
I'm not putting the guy in the same class as Zora, but he deserves
the recognition in my opinion.

Obviously GM thought enough of him to produce these models.
There must have been a reason :yesnod:

You can file that with the Dallas Cowboy C3 special edition.
Ha! I remember that guy. He loved his 'Dallas Cowboys' Corvette. I wonder if it ever got sold.

I saw that. When I was looking for my wife's C-4, I thought I found one of those. But did not pursue. Why should he get a Vette named after him? Why don't I get one? Cartier got a Town Car, right?

:iagree: And Eddie Bauer got a bunch of Ford trucks named after him :lolg: WTF are they worth!!!!!!!!!

Rare & "Rare & Desirable" are two different, big different things. By the looks of the bids(and the low amount), it does'nt look like it's very "desirable". Rare, yeah, but it's kinda like '98 Pace Cars---the only ones who think they are collectable are the ONES WHO OWN 'EM!!! Everybody bought the '90-'95 ZR-1s on HYPE and paid $63-66K for these cars and thought "how collectible" they were going to be and now at Bloomington & Carlisle you see 'em coming into the auctions, brand new 120miles, etc., and not even getting bid up to $22K(or less)!!! Somebody is loosing $40K ON THESE CARS!!! Just glad it ain't me :D

see now this I agree with....I'm not arguing the car isnt rare, it is obviously the real thing, the point I less than elegantly was trying to make was, "so what" rare doesnt necessarily mean anything...A pinto is bloody rare..so is a running Vega....you dont see people drooling all over themselves for it.

If this was some kind of signature Shinoda or Duntov car, then it might be worth something over what it is, because those guys meant something all this guy ever did was sell a bunch of corvettes apparently, and I dare you to ask any 1000 normal corvette enthusiasts (outside of whatever local influence that dealership might have) about this guy and I am willing to bet you get about 999 blank stares back.

The car looks good and clean and is probably very nice, but IMO there is ZERO added value to that car because of the guy.

I guess my question is "who cares" ? who the bloody hell is Malcome Konner? and why would I want a corvette with his name on it? so he was a long time chevy dealer - Big Fat Hairy Deal - at least the seller hasnt jacked the price into the stratosphere as if someone actually cared about this "rare" option.

woo Hoot the "hyper rare 1 of 50 commemorative edition for somebody nobody ever heard of"

I wouldnt care if it was 1 of 1 - it still isnt worth a single penny more than a noremal vette of that vintage.
All this from a guy with the 2nd highest year car in unit's sold.....

I mean he only has the only '53 that was never sold, and was the largest Corvette Dealer for like, forever.....

But you west coast boys wouldn't know about that... or care.

Hi, way back in the early years of my sickness while I was wanting to buy a corvette, I found my way to Malcom Konners and after being ignored and priced out of what I wanted to spend on a new Corvette ( 1967 ) I was turned on to another nearby chevy dealer, Hawthorne Auto Sales, where I eventually bought my first (of many) corvettes for a much more realistic price. As a side note it was a rumor that when Eddie Murphy started to be a hit on SNL, he wandered into Konner's Chev and was completely ignored by their Corvette "specialists" due to his ethnic background, he got pissed, left and returned later with his new car,,, they had no idea who he was at that time, So anyway,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Peace, Craig :seeya

I'm not sure, but I dont think I ever claimed any moral high ground on rarity, but the statement is true...also the heaviest C3 ever made...not the slowest, but far from the fastest..not the best looking model either, but then they were all much the same.

And?

But you west coast boys wouldn't know about that... or care.
Bingo!

Ignorance is bliss
you bet buddy  me and the other 98% of Corvette owners who never heard of this guy

Different strokes for different folks, but this car isn't worth a penny more to you. Someone else, it may be worth $thousands more than any other 86 vette around.

My 1979 isn't worth but maybe $6,000. I wouldn't let it go for less than $60,000. Its all about the sentimental value.

99.9% of the E-bay crowd doesn't know who the guy is and isn't going surfing to see who he is at $7000. It's just another '86 that some people don't see as something that is collectible and they bottom fish it. Just the way it works. Maybe a collector was awaiting in the wings to take it off his hands. They just forgot to do it.

I have to admit I have read every post in this thread and I see no extra value to it.

Yes indeed, you got that right...it is a subjective value we are talking about...but that is the point, value added by this option is dependant ONLY upon how desirable that option is. A 4 wheel drum 86 would be incredibly rare..(ok I know they never happened :D ) but the desirablility is zero and the value of such a option is low.

I was in Malcom Konner Chevrolet lots of time when I lived in the area. Store is still there with the same 53 on the third floor Vettes only showroom.

In their heyday, Konner's was arrogant and overpriced but the area (Bergen County) had lots of guys who had money and commuted to Manhatten to work as stock brokers, TV execs and WTC types.

It was like shooting fish in a barrel for Malcom Konner Chevrolet and they acted like it.

When Chevy fell on hard times and BMWs and Mercedes took over in Bergen County, Malcom Konner's business declined. The store was old and out of date by the late 80's with very little parking for inventory or customers and no room to expand.

They still sell a bunch of Vette's based more on everone knowing they specialize but its not the same as in the late 60's and 70's. Of course, nothing else is either.

I guess the reason the Malcom Konner special edition doesn't grab anyone's interest is that it is all about the vanity of a dealer not performance or even luxury or style.
