Norm (lotahp) has one.. maybe he can e-mail you pics...
His e-mail is:
lotahp@aol.com
If he doesn't have any pics - I can take some pics of his car at the Corvette Challenge...

There are not alot out there ...I asked the same question awhile back and few are really 4point safety type ...Many are just 2point attached more for looks or harness belt hook ups ...Heres the best one I,ve seen and it was custom build for a convertible , but it would give you a good idea of the mounting points ...I have more pictures if you,d like to see it attached to the frame .CLICK on the link below to see another shot of it

OUCH! There was a discussion not that long ago about the NHRA raising the specs on mandatory roll bars. I think the BEST one you can get is a 12 point roll bar. I can't even IMAGINE the amount of contorting a fat old fart like me would have to do to get IN the dang car :( :( :(
Jegs sells the roll bars for Vettes. A 12 point version cost $273.
I don't even want to think about what labor would be to have it installed :(
Thanks for depressing me...I will need to have one installed in my '72.

Is that bar/cage 'NHRA-legal'? If so, your set-up looks easy to get in/out...
I was under the impression that to be 'NHRA-legal', the diagonal/door-bar had to pass between the left shoulder and elbow; left elbow and wrist; and the left hip and knee, as the driver 'sits' in the car, with hands resting on his knees.
Thanks for the pics!!!

I'm not sure about NHRA, but road racing clubs that I belong to require that the hoop on a convertible be at least 2" above the helmet of the driver. Whether or not you could still use the soft top.... I guess it depends on how tall you are. I know that it would have to be this tall in order to do its job of saving your head in the event of a rollover. If you're just concerned about a belt bar to mount 5 point harnesses, I've seen a few around here. I think "tshort" has one that I've looked at before.

Awesome, that's alot like what I've been wanting to do, nicely tucked out of sight. I would connect to the front of the frame though, which will make it a bit more difficult... but I was hoping to keep the same stealthy look.

Re: Anyone have pics of a rollbar in a C-3??? (Glensgages)
Glen: I will probably go with the 12-point but I have seen a modification where the bar going along the side was a "swing-away" secured by anchor pins so you could get in and out easier. Not sure NHRA would approve of this though :(
Personally, I see no reason to install a roll bar unless you absolutely HAVE to. The real ones are a royal pain in the butt to climb into. Having a functional roll bar is like looking forward to going to a dentist. YUCK!

It is NHRA legal. I had a local NHRA tech inpector take a close look at the welds. He said it would pass, but it is only a 6 point. If I run faster than 10.99 additonal bars will have to be added. Jegs sells a kit for 80-82's. I purchased mine from them to make sure the wall thickness met NHRA requirements.
For the installation: IT sucked having to cut huge holes in the floorboard to gain enough space to get the welding gun in place to make the welds. I installed mine in my garage, on jack stands. It would have been nice to have a lift to access the underbody, but it can be done. If you got the bucks, pay a pro to do it, or be prepared to invest alot of time on this project.
Good luck,
Joe

A swing-out door-bar IS legal in NHRA/IHRA racing. A guy at my local strip runs one in his 10.50/126 Mopar (Coronet?), and has NO PROBLEM getting into any track he chooses (Oh., Pa., Md., W.Va., De., etc.). At 'some' point, ET-wise, the swing-out becomes no-good, but I'm not sure where it is...
I wouldn't bother putting a bar in my '82; it's too slow as it is, and the ol' Cross-Fire couldn't pull the extra 50 lbs...
I'm just curious how a chassis shop would put a FULL-CAGE in a later C3, with the 'big' back-window?
