427 Stinger hood scoop- where can I buy one?
This sounds simple- but I just tried Eckler's, Vanacor and ACI online- without success.
Does anyone know where I can buy a '67-style stinger hood scoop new? I'm looking for additional hood clearance on the '79 (now with the L-88 hood)- might be going to Webers or a Whipple supercharger later this year on the 502.
Anybody got any other ideas for hood clearance (without an exposed engine or those big ugly bullet scoops)? Maybe an extended L-88 scoop?
Thanks in advance-

If it's going on the 79 (and doesn't have to be dimensionally "correct") you might even try JC Whitney. Paint the 79 to match the 67 - will make an interesting pair! :) MJ

I may be able to save you some research -- I looked into putting a Whipple single rotor under an L-88 hood (without an intercooler), but it's not even close. You can get the hood to fit over the blower if you go with the EFI unit, since the throttle body mounts to the rear of the blower and keeps the height down, but the nose drive will be a big problem because it has to be long enough to clear all the short water pump pulleys. It will be poking right out the front of the hood near the top of the radiator. The serpentine systems that you see on the Whipple site that drive the blower and accessories with one belt and a short nose drive are all custom deals, not available for sale. The normal system they sell puts the blower belt out in front of your existing v-belt (or serpentine) system, and that pushes it right out the front of the hood. The cost was $6100 just for the blower, drive setup, and throttle body, so I got scared off.
It sure would look cool in a C3 though!

I think you can still get what amounts to the top portion or the Stinger hood. I've thought of one day buying one and molding it to the L-88 hood for additional clearance, then cutting out the underside.
Rolling Thunder was making a hood similar to what I've described.

I was thinking about Merlin (Steve Kamis), and he mentioned once that he found super hi-rise versions of the L-88 hood scoop- anyone know or remember?
The L-88 hood on my car still hit the front carb stud on the 2x4 setup!
I had to lower the air cleaner and shorten the stud in order to clear just a low-rise dual plane intake! The BB Ramjet EFI won't clear any optional C-3 hood, and neither will any other BB setup (except maybe the Street and Performance BB EFI, or the Arizona Speed and Marine setup-both with the short runner setup).
Anyway- there's a real problem with hood clearance on the C-3. I'm just trying to find some good solutions.

I got mine from Ecklers (one piece) Its one inch taller than the stock hood.
I'm not sure if I'll run a 383"/406", or a ZZ502, but I REALLY don't wanna get a full-blown snorkel-scoop (altho 'Intimidator454' looks cool); I understand they're VERY difficult to 'look-over' on the line.....
...and I never really liked the thought of an early C3 (L88/LT-1/big-block) hood on a late C3

Hey Michael, Been awhile since we've seen you over here. Welcome back! Running from some health problems keeps me in an on again off again mode with my fiberglass work, but I do have enough posted to at least give you an idea of the direction I'm headed. You'd be welcome to check it out at:

I've gone to the Accel gen7 dfi for the 502. Just couldn't get the dropbase and air chamber to squat down over that throttle body. I am adding a stinger style scoop for ram air and for clearance. I did cut it down to blend into the lines of the long L-88 hood. If you'd like any measurements for clearance purposes, just drop me an email. I still owe you anyway. :yesnod:
Good luck!

I remember a year, year and a half ago or so there were some forum members who were very happy with their JC Whitney hoods...perfect complement for their "La Cucaracha" horns and fuzzy dice.
:jester
Seriously, though, the book on them at the time was that they fit really well right out of the box and that you couldn't hardly beat the price. May be worth a look. Good luck.

I bought mine from some place in Ca, but don't have the name right now.
He's the scoop after I did a cut and shut to make it fit.
