Now we know the recession is most definately over in the US, never really hit up here in Canada. This time of year I always find that if vettes have a good run at B-J many of the forum members get sky high over the potential increased value in our C3's not realizing that we'd have to put near 100k into them to get back 30 - 50k. My son was watching the auction today and made the comment that my vert must be worth $X, I replied only with me dropping $XXX into it.

the l88 seemed cheap after the fiasco that preceeded it!! Imagine that dufus yelling in your face on national TV, "Are you a man or a mouse" when you are bidding $300++ for a hotrod! That was disgusting!

 Anyway, where can I find out who that guy was that bought ALL the Calaways!! ??

IMO almost this entire auction is an ego trip for the bidders. They definitely over-pay on most of these vehicles. They get caught up in the excitment and want to show everyone they can go higher & higher. Some of them may even regret what the paid after they wake up the next morning. That said, it does provide at least a high level guage of what type of cars are highly sought after and it's fun to see some of the cars.

I'm wondering what these guys do for a living myself. One guy that bought the GT500 Shelby looks like he just sold the family farm to come up with the cash.

Barrett-Jackson is for guys who want "the best" (or at least perceived best) without having to search for it. It is part ego trip, part convenience, part vacation.

It certainly isn't for guys like us who a)enjoy the search b)know the value of specific cars c)enjoy getting a good deal d)aren't big on waving our money around.

I made the comment to my wife that I get much more pleasure from chatting about how I was lucky enough to find a ratty 1969 427/435 convertible (without its original engine) in the middle of nowhere and negotiating for only two weeks to buy it for $6K, than I ever would from buying the same car in 100-point restoration status on national tv for $100K.

Frankly, I'd rather have 10 drivers than one Barrett-Jackson 100point show car. That's just me.

And I was laughing when the guy bought a very nice original 1976 TR6 for $16,000 (plus 8% commission.) I've turned down nicer TR6s in the last year at the $7,000 price point.

Crazy.

How much did it go for? It's scary to think we had one when I was very young, and my dad sold it (said it couldn't hang with his '69 L89 he had:)). A '69 Shelby GT500 428cj 4 seepd Convertible black w/ gold stripes.

I would'nt at all say "it's over". These bidders are just guys that have money and see that the stock market and other investments "SOMETIMES" are NOT as good as investing in certain muscle/collector cars. Kinda like when in the late '80s/early '90s when a lot of foreign investors were taking these cars overseas and out of the U.S. :yesnod:

That whole auction has gone beserk, IMHO- I've been watching it for days now, and the bidding is WAY over the top. Mostly just a BIG ego trip for the majority of the bidders- and a compulsive behavioral malfunction.........

A stock '56 Chevy vert sold for $100K+ ?????????
A 67 427 L-71 Vette roadster for $135K ???????????????
TOTALLY Abso-fricken-lutely NUTS!!!!!
P.S.
If any of those opbnoxious clowns B/J puts with the bidders ever touched me or got in my face like that, they'd be on the floor damn quick.

I think that GT500 went for $48-49,000! Althought I think there were a few GT500's there.

I also saw a 1970 Roadrunner REAL HEMI-Superbird Go for $180,000. 1953 Corvette went for $175,000.

Mine will never be in that group.

Even replica cars were going for stupid amounts of money. Make a clone and have Barrett Jackson sell it, another fool is born every minute.

I was ther on Saturday and watched a 66 427 go for 100 grand. The prices were insane this year. A not so nice 62 Thunderbird vert went for 21 grand at about the same time. I really believe it's the only place you can get that kind of $$ out of the cars.
