You really have no fiberglass experience do you? I suggest you read that ecklers book on fiberglass. It's easy to understand and will really help you in doing a good job on your hood.
Fiberglass work is not hard, just be patient, use the correct materials and use as little filler as possible.
To mount your scoop you can put it on the hood in the desired position, outline it, cut the hood. Then secure the scoop with screws and plates. I would start glassing it in on the underside, then when done with the underside do the other side. A lot of books say to use a V shaped groove on the old and new glass border but I like to use U grooves since they are much easier to fill in, V grooves can lead to air bubbles in the deep part of the V, with u grooves you won't have those problems.

The nice thing about working with fiberglass is that it so easy to redo if you make mistakes and it takes very few specialized tools to work with. Other than that it's some awful itchy schitt!! :D

Step one, buy the eklers videos on fiber glass repair, better than the books, and will walk you through the steps. I used a jig saw with a fine metal blade.
Fiberglass is easy to work with, get the idea that you want in your head, and make sure that you do it right the first time when cutting!!

Fiberglass is pretty easy for the" first timer" to do.....remember to always measure twice, then cut once

I use a grinder and a metal cut off wheel. It's the easyest way I found and it dont put stress on the glass.

I bought an air powered Campbell Housefield Roto Zip type tool and then bought a couple 4 flute 1/8" endmills from MSC industrial supply. Cuts like a hot knife thru butter and the endmills produce a nice chip rather than dust like a jig saw or a die grinder. it does take a little pratice to cut a straight line free handed however.

Make sure you leave enough room for the blower, it's gonna be a wild dyno day this year

The only pro fiberglass body shop I know uses a jigsaw (sabresaw) with a blade designed for wood. 10 teeth per inch. Goes through it like butter.
