What holds the "Stingray" emblem on the fender?
One of my "Stingray" emblems is loose, and I pulled it off too easily. It has three posts, no threads or nuts, and appears to have been bonded to the car with some sort of black adhesive. The remaining adhesive is now dry and brittle, and it looks like I can easily clean it off both from the car's finish and what remains on the emblem.
Anyone know what the the stock bonding agent is? Do the NOS emblems I see on ebay already have adhesive (perhaps a double sided thick tape) on them? If so, then that adhesive is 30+ years old now, and probably no good anyway....

p/n 3956216 emblem is held in place with of all things... "double stick tape". The emblem when bought new comes with a green pull off covering that when pulled off exposed a stick tape. You just aim and stick.

Dave.
When I removed mine for the body shop, I found the same thing. Unless you can find some very narrow double sided tape, you may have to buy a new one. :(

You can do like I do and not use the tape and just push them on. Makes it much easier to clean the car for shows. In the twenty three years I have owned the car I have lost maybe three or four. I just keep a set on the shelf.

My car has the emblems held on by nuts and it has four legs. The replacements I bought to go back on the car have the sticky back tape on them and three legs. Maybe all replacements have only three legs and sticky back tape. Also the legs on the new emblems are much shorter than the originals.

Just repainted my car...used 'emblem glue' (yes, there really is such a thing)...my painter says he's never had it fail...

Thanks for the tips! I searched the archives, and the idea I like best is to not use any adhesive, but rather, buy some rubber tubing, with small enough diameter internal hole, cut the tubing into 3/4" strips, and press on to each of the emblem's posts from inside the fender. This makes removing the emblem very easy for running the buffer/polisher around that area, and with the emblem off the car, prevents wax build up inside the lettering. :chevy

I think that I am going to steal that idea.
