Default Jacking a 77 C3

I am ready to start the work on my breaks on my 77. I have alot of advice on jacking the car up due the flex in the body???? Open the doors and hood. leave the t-tops in take them out. Don't jack from the front cross member. I want to put the car up on 4 jackstands so i can do the breaks on all four wheels. Any advice.
Joe

I have always jacked mine up from the sides, one side at a time, put 2 jack stands in and then the other side. Doors closed, windows up or down, T-tops on or off.

I have never had any problems.

I have been around vettes for years and never had any problems jacking. I know a lot of places insist on opening the dors and unlocking T top. I think if there were any problems, just driving on some of the terrible road we have would cause any stress problem to show up, nevermind jacking.

Recently asked a C3 mechanic (wouldn't THAT be cool!) this very question in anticipation of...changing my brakes...
He reiterated the jacking points (five inches in front of front door seam and three inches in front of rear door seam...I think...)...he says he's never had a problem jacking from the front crossmember and sliding the jackstands in place--though he has heard the reports of crossmember cracks...
He recommends front, then rear...keep doors closed...windows, ttops +/-

Have fun!!!

You drillin out the rotors?
Careful, don't mess up the parking brake...it's a beeoch!

Before you start working on them I'd learn how to spell brakes :boxing

LOL... you don't need to spell to work on them... besides they are broke so breaks fit the discription....
Joe

Thanks for the advice i just want to dispell all the wives tales...

personaly i would NEVER jack mine from the front center or rear center...
just TOO much wieght over too long of a span...
its a fulcrum thing...
ALWAYS one side then the other for me... :yesnod:
and my car has been hovering on jack stands more than i care to realize...
doors/windows/T-tops...not a problem...

I have photos on my website. It's not that hard. Just lift it up. The car will take it. The C4 is actually a lot harder to raise.

I lift my C3 and C4 from the front center cross member and the rear
center bracket thing. Doors opened and or closed mostly with t-tops in.
Never had a problem but I just checked a diagram at corvettefaq.com
and it shows that you jack one corner at a time.
