Default Electric vs Manual Choke

Can someone tell me the difference between electric and manual choke? I'm assuming my original Q-Jet carb has a manual choke. What do you use for a power source for the electric choke?

Manual will require that you have a control in the vehicle... usually a pull/push ****. Electric hooks to a 12 volt power source (gets its ground via the carb) and basically opens the choke over a period of time (as a spring mechanism heats up). I would bet you have an electric choke. do you see a single wire going to the carb? you may have two if you have airconditioning as one will go to the selinoid for increasing your idle when the AC is on.

On mine, the electric choke wire is green and hooks to the right side of the engine. hope this helps.

Ugman

your orginial choke is a hot air choke... in the intake manifold.. its neither manual or electric

what year model is the car and what are you doing to it>?

electric chokes are easy to use and reliable.. depends on what you are doing to the vette

I have a 78 that has a performer intake and I want to replace the q-jet original carb with a performer 600cfm from edelbrock. I'm also replacing the existing air filter system with a triangular k&n system from edelbrock.

My Holley 650 came with electric choke n I luv it. Great starts like bigbadjoe says. Been lots a discussion re best place for 12v source but mechanic told me to use switched source at alternator. Close to carb n that way choke not energized when ignition switched to accessories like listenin to radio. If not sure check with meter switchin ignition on/off.

80 is the first year for the electric choke. 75 thru 79 had a hot air choke. The 80 choke cover (electric coil) can be used on the 75 thru 79 carbs provided the choke cover gasket is removed.
