Default Test Drive #2 Road Noise Reduction (interrior referb)

I was able to take my 80 out on the interstate today and really get a feel (or ear) for the new noise levels. Per a lot of suggestions here I covered the rear with Dynamat Extreme then Reflectex for heat before installing the new carpet. I also covered the inside of the doors with Dynamat.

DEFINITE reduction in interrior noise from the road and Flowmaster Delta 40s. Can still get a rush out of the exhaust when my foot is in it but can now carry on a conversation during cruise.

Carpet fit very well over the added insulation as the new technology is much thinner than the 24 year old jute.

Highly reocmmend this combination for anyone that is looking to control the heat and kill the road noise. I don't have the stereo installed yet but I understand that the Dynamat will make a big improvement in sound quality as well. We'll see...

Ed

Very nice job and congrats with cutting down the noise... something I see in my near future as well if I can ever get my transmission to give me a break.

Stereo??? that doesnt make you go any faster!

Well maybe if you drop in the speed metal or something... so I guess I'll allow it.

Ed,

Nice job! I'm glad to hear of your success. As I told you before, I plan on tackling the same project this winter. Where did you buy the Dynamat Extreme? I know places like Best Buy carry it but it seems expensive ti buy it there. Any thoughts?

Chris...

This one goes in the "lessons learned" file... I purchased the Dynamat Extreme from Ultimate Electronics (at a premium). Since then, I've found it on ebay much cheaper and there is another off brand at Circut City.

Just make certain that your surface is clean and degreased before application. Also recommend using a wooden roller (like a wallpaper seam roller). Also wear gloves! The foil can leave a nasty "paper cut"!

I'll have to look into the "off" brand at CC. Thanks again and great job!

A MUCH, MUCH cheaper solution than Dynamat is Fat Mat. http://www.fatmat.com/ They sell it on eBay, but I would suggest that you go thru their website, as the eBay seller is a non-responsive jerk. 100sf for $100.00 + $30.00 s&h. 100sf is enough to put it double thick over the entire C3 cockpit. It really cuts the heat and noise, is adhesive backed for easy installation, and will make your stereo seem like it is twice as powerful.
