Default C-3 fuel tanks

I know that GM started installing bladders in the fuel tanks about halfway through the C-3 generation. I assmue that it was because of some kind of problem. My question is, does anyone know the reason for this? I am in the middle of my LS-1 conversion and I know that I can simply install an external fuel pump, but I have concerns about continuing to use a 25 year old tank. I found a place that will fab a tank with an internal pump and baffles, but no bladder out of stainless. Your thoughts?

I can't help you with your tank question but I hope you will keep us updated on the LS1 swap as I am interested in doing the same to my 75 vert.

The bladder , I believe was a safety measure to contain the gas when the tank was ruptured in an accident.

There are a lot of members that have removed theirs due to choice and necessity.

Yep ... remember the Pinto Bean that Ford made? Exploded when hit! Same era as our cars. And ours were glass instead of steel bodies ... so they came under question.

Get rid of it. Period.

Thanks, everyone. Sounds like I need to keep the tank unless it's in bad shape inside (It's fine outside). Safety first.
