1970 LT-1 Vert...with A/C????
I just ran into a guy at a local swap meet that insists his Vette is a 1970 LT-1 with air. Before he started talking to me I said "Hey, nice '72"...A/C and the LT-1 led me to this. He looked at me like I was an idiot and told me with total conviction that it is one of three '70's like this. Then I noticed the console tag that reads 330HP ('71). Any true Corvette guy with an LT-1 knows that the '70 had 370HP and that A/C was not available until 1972. I think this guy was screwed by someone a litle more savvy than him when it comes to Corvettes.

Did you look at the tachometer? I saw a car on ebay awhile back with a similar setup. I told the guy selling it that the car didn't come that way. I think that car was an Ontario Orange 71 vert with AC. The numbers on the block were correct for an LT1 but the car had factory AC and the tach redline was 5300 instead of the LT1's 6500.
You gotta be careful out there with these fakes!

OK then here's the story... In 71 chilton's manual's incorrectly listed one of the base engines (code CJK) as 330 H.P (same as LT-1) The CJK engine was a base engine (270HP) and did come with A/C, so you can see where the confusion comes from. This fact accounts for all of the 71 Lt1's with Automatic and A/C. Millions of chilton's manual were distributed to auto part stores.

And to add to that, the only LT1's that had a/c were very late in the year. When I was looking for a 72 LT1, I found a dealer in the Long Island area who had one with a/c. I asked for any documentation and was told that "the tank sticker blew out the window on the Long Island Expressway." Another dealer had a very low number 72 LT1 with a/c and no documentation. Passed on both of those jewels.

My brother has a buddy who's one of these smart*ss know-it-all types - he was trying to tell me in the first several years of production, you could get a Corvette with your choice of either a fiberglass or metal body.
