Would you like a can opener to help with this can of worms?

Last I heard, he was pondering buying the Merlin 1 back and trying to get it running again. It was a really neat endeavour. Not to mention the fact that he's an engineering genius on the software side - I can only hope to have as much success as him some day.

He had plans to build a sweet extavagant Corvette
He built a sweet extravagant Corvette
He DROVE the sweet extravagant Corvette
He sold sweet extravagant Corvette
He returned to the forum with mixed emotions
... he got flamed a little bit
he has not returned since...

It is unfortunate, I loved seeing what he was going to do next. Although I could never afford to do what he was doing, it was great to see someone... anyone... doing that to a Covette! We all have priorities in life, some are different than others... but I think everyone on this forum has CORVETTE somewhere on their list!

I agree. I really enjoyed checking out his webpage to view his results and see his progress. I was just wondering if he bought the car back. Why did he sell it to begin with?

HELLO, lets please remember(this guy gets so much credit) he
did not build nothing he paid to get this car built!!!!
MONEY IS WHAT HE HAS. I like the car, I bought another c3
because his car, And i was told i would never fit 17/11 with no flares,
I pretty much went off his car, to do what i did. But i give him no
credit. I dont know steve kamis, and im not knockin him.
but it is one of a kind.

From what I recall, he had to dump it at a huge loss, due to his never-ending supply of cash suddenly ending.

Why was he flamed upon return ?
His first post back was perceived as him flaunting the return of
his never-ending supply of cash. Folks did not care to hear
about his new 4 bedroom house, with garage room for his
Hummer and Mercedes and perhaps the 74 again.

Apparently, he didn't take kindly to being called an arrogant
fat-head by several of the forum members. I have never met or
talked to Steve (Merlin), so I abstained from that mess.

Like my mother always said: "If you don't have something nice to say,
then shut the F#$% Up !!!"

hee hee...

Okay... we all know he had money. So what? Can't fault a guy for having a little cash flow. Maybe some members are do it yourselfers? Some pay other people to do it. It was still his car. If he wants to flaunt... go right ahead... means nothing to me. You make millions... cool. You work hourly... cool. Bottom line... it was a fun build to watch... no matter who built it. (just my humble opinion)

I know I know... some of us would of went with a different motor, color, interior... the list goes on....
One thing I think we can agree on... it was a pretty sweet looking car.

oh... one other note... I still think MCSPEED's car is the nicest I have every seen!

It sounded like people just wouldnt lighten up, when he came back he even made an appoligy to anyone he might have offended, and tried to win back our respect but we werent so welcome.....its a darn shame, i would've loved to see his car being built, if it wasnt for his car i wouldnt have 17 by 12s on all four corners right now. Lets hope he comes back sometime

Hi All, I thought that when he came back he got into a pissing match with somebody and kinda got turned off by all the "cliqueism" that goes on here. He certainly did get the car of a lot our dreams built. Too bad he was "dissed" so badly,,Peace,,,,,,,,,,,,anyway, Craig

And by the way, I used to talk to steven often.

him the muffler was welded on upside down.

It just freaks me out alot of people think he built thid car.

You can actually fit them on a stock C3 and not even neccesarily have to get flares, it looks pretty cool with the tire slightly sticking out, thank god for VBPs 3inch adapters, makes for a perfect fit

Megladon... what is the difference if he built (turn the wrench) or not? It was his idea right... so one could say he helped build the car. I am just asking because I find it odd that there is a different class of owners. The wrench turners seem to dislike the "fakes" that have the money and pay some else to do it. The folks with a little cash seem to think the wrench turners can't afford to have someone else to do it. Kinda of funny huh... both thoughts are wrong. Both do it because they want a nice car. Money, no Money, some Money... no big deal... doesn't help you breathe...

gearhead, Does not bother me one bit how people build their car's.
Money or no money. do it yourselfer's or pay as you go type's are all over. Its that many people think he built this car. Well yes he did.
in his head. An idea is great, but i give credit to the buiders for
making it happen. I could very well afford a specialist myself, to do
this for me to, but i like to break things and rebuild them. I want to
know when my car is done, I know whats in it. we are all different
on how we do things. Nothing against money people, as I am pretty
middle class, but nothing I want to bragg or flaunt here or anywhere.
I breathe very well.

P.S. FAKE OR BUILDER, NEVER SEEN IT THAT WAY.

You know what was great though? Whether he turned the wrenches or had someone else do it, he had input on each and every detailed aspect of the construction - and he posted just about every decision for feedback - and with detailed photos and descriptions of the progress! I thought all the dialog was fascinating. It got everybody here talking about the pros and cons of every little nit design and made this a very interesting forum. Man, it had the C4 & C5 forums beat hands down ("what polish do you guys use?"..."I bought a new air filter and now I have a 99 point car"...etc., etc.)

I miss having him on the forum and was sad to see such a brief return...

it was his idea but the idea was flawed from the beginning. Now, don't get me wrong I always got along with steve and never commented on any of his stuff but he made claims that he could not keep. I once saw something like it would outhandle a McLaren. With a stock chassis & stock, albeit upgraded with VB&P stuff, suspension you will NEVER be able to do that. His suspension was nice but not what it could have been, or should have been. Same goes for the braking department, o ringed stock pistons.

If he had just spent a little less on the (overheating) engine that was way too powerfull and would grenade his driveline, but would have invested in a serious suspension, serious brakes, a seriously stiff frame (tubular) and a little less power with a decent radiator (I have a bigger rad in my car than he had in his) and stuff like that then the car would actually be drivable, reliable and fun to drive, not a suicide plane.

I agree with Twin Turbo, he made lots of claims that he just couldn't live up to. A number of times I pointed out a future problem and was ignored. Other then an outrages motor that was never streetable and a fabulous paint job along with great looking wheels and tires it was nothing special. Could he honestly drive it say 50 or 100 miles after completeting it??? Did it have a serious overheating problem???
Give me Monty's twin turbo car anyday. In technology and actually running ability it was far ahead of Merlin.
I am a wrench turner. What I create is mine through hard work and lots of sweat.
I certainly enjoyed his buildup and looked for it each day but sometimes it got a little deep.
I would have loved to see him come back and back up some of his claims, I would have loved to own the car but the motor certainly would have come apart and rebuilt to something that could actually run on the street. To say nothing of his poor suspension.
Money is nice but it won't gain my respect.

Last I heard of him was that he followed some Ho to Canada. I guess everybody needs to be loved.
