Is Ecklers still the best source for a L-88 hood?

I knew it Jay.
I got my hood from Ecklers primarily because they have the original molds from GM. I was disappointed though. The hood arrived and it looked like it was one that was returned to them for imperfections. I had scratches and two(2) 1 ft diameter areas were painted primer. The rest of the hood was not primered but just had a smooth coating. I called to complain and they said "No problem, just ship the hood back to us and once we receive it we'll ship out a new one." Guess what? Shipping was my responsibility. :mad At $100 one way, freight, that woulda cost me another $200 with no guarrantee that the 2nd hood would be any different than the 1st. The hood would have cost me almost $800.
I figured that I could spend that $200 somewhere else. The hood was easily repaired but it was just the point that I rec'd shoddy merchandise. I wasn't alone in this matter either. Other members here have reported similar circumstances. Would I buy another hood from Eckler's? NOPE!
I've read on the forum here that Vanacor and Gruhala are good sources.
Looking into my crystal ball Jay, I see a BB in your future.

I have really been looking at one of these. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ayphotohosting They look very nice. One further note I did contact them and they also offer the same hood in the long design as well.

Seems a bit much to me... But if you need the clearance, you need the clearance.

Well I would like to put as much air cleaner on the Big Block as I can. I found years ago that if you use those drop base design air cleaners it henders performance. I myself would rather have a taller hood and be able to put on an intake combo that will help performance instead of build a HP engine and put on a low HP intake. But that is just me.

Corey--I was thinking about this a couple years ago and read here some ugly stories about Vanacor. Glad to here that's changed. Is the hood nice underneath? Perfect fit?
Jughead--I'll be needing a Keisler and a paint job and a frozen motor before thoughts of BB enter the picture, but I'm not ruling it out.

I found a picture of the hood shortly after receiving it. You can see the two sprayed primer spots but the scratches aren't visible.

I purchased mine from Vanacor corvette. It fit fine. All I have to do was prime and paint. I have purchased a lot of body parts from them and have never had any complaints.
