Brand New Muncie 4-speed transmissions available!!
Hi All,
I'm in the process of changing my Vette from auto to stick. I saw the Richmond Super T-10s in the parts catalogs and that was my original plan for the conversion. However, I have found that there is a company making IMPROVED versions of the Muncie M20/21/22 transmissions. These are BRAND NEW transmission in EVERY WAY!!!
I may change my plans and go for an M-22 Rock Crusher. They made some pretty good improvements over what was already a heavy duty transmission. I've seen a couple of places selling them, but this place seems to be the best one:

Have a look if you have a Muncie that needs a rebuild or are doing the auto-to-stick conversion.

Screw them man -- for 600 more bucks you can have a race prepped T56 6-spd from www.rsgear.com better gear ratios for the first 4 gears anyway.

O/D four speed???
I read their info on the website, and they WILL make a four speed with a 1.00 to 1 THIRD gear and a 0.89:1 FOURTH gear. Providing your car can handle only two speeds lower than 1.00:1, then this could be the duck's guts, at $600 less than an O/D five speed that will not look stock, and will need the chassis and floor to be modified to fit it. Sounds good to me.

IMO, if you can't drop 30% of engine speed for the ONE o/drive gear necessary for highway cruising, it's not worth anything to spend money on...period....where is your cost/benefit??
lets say like my car, a 336 rear....ok, that means
~4 grand at 80 mph.....kinda spinning high and hot for long freeway miles in hot weather, meaning over 80f....now if you drop that to say 2500 rpm, engine cool, less noise, better economy, lower wear and tear, and easier driving all around,
so IMO anything less than a 30% drop is just not worth the money/time/effort....

Lets examine the T56 tranny. 5th gear is .8 and 6th gear is .62(at least the racing trannies from Rsgear.com)
so to figure out roughly what RPM you want to be driving at that speed it would go something like this
MPH = Erpm * 60 / gear / rear / (tire rpms to the mile can be found at tirerack.com)
So theoretically a 3.36 rearend going 80 with 255SR60-15s(pretty standard tires for a C3.
so Erpm = MPH * tires * rearend * tranny gear / 60
2133 = 80 * 768 * 3.36 * .62 / 60
So you would be cruising along at 2100rpms.
2368 for a 3.73 rearend
got 4.11s?
2609 rpms for drivin 80
Just an FYI

I should have clarified in my original post, but all of the points you guys posted are totally meaningless to me...
#1 I am NOT driving on the highway
#2 "Cruising" is NOT in my plans
#3 This transmission is mainly for 1/4 mile RACE use. I don't do "turns".
#4 Economy means NOTHING to me, since I won't even be USING pump
gas
#5 Noisy doesn't worry me in the least. The original M22 was VERY noisy. Noisy in this case means HEAVY DUTY. I'll be running a gear drive cam and open headers that exit directly under the car, so I doubt I'll notice the "noise" of the transmission very much
#6 I will be using a shifter that is NOT suitable for street use (Hurst V-Gate).
Look guys, I just posted this as info for those who NEED or WANT a Muncie. I could give two squirts about all your pickyune negative comments and 6-8-10 speed transmissions. :mad

DJ DEP, Paul @ Medatronics is an awesome, HONEST guy. Call him and tell him what you want to do with the car and he will recomend what he thinks is best. I know him personally. He rebuilt my M-20 a few years back. HE KNOWS HIS STUFF when it comes to manual transmissions. By the way he is also a Vette guy!!! It's definitly worth the call.

Hi All,
Let ME be the one to apologize. I had a bad morning and I'm a bit testy. I had NO right to bitch about posts to the thread, since they were all contributory and probably fit into what most people are doing with their cars. I try and "keep it light" with all my posts and this is not like me at all. Please forgive me.
