Winch for Car Trailer ?
Anybody give me an idea what type of winch rating I should have to pull a C3 onto a trailer? I'm tired of pushing on and having it fall off.
Thanks, Larry

My dad had a car trailer and welded a winch from the boat davits. It worked very well. It was very easy to wind and he could use a 1/2 drill if he wanted to crank the winch up that way.

The average ATV winch is a 2500 pound rated winch--with the ****** block at a 16 foot pull it would double that to a 5000 pound pull which would easily pull a Vette on a trailer.

I bolted a standard manual boat winch on the post neck. The winch was rated at something like 1200 or 1500 lbs. But its not like you're winching the car straight up!
The winch was about $75 and its been working great for about 7 years.

I pulled my vette up my sloped driveway with my lawn tractor and a 3/8 nylon rope. It doesn't take much. A boat trailer winch would be enough, and they have friction brakes so it won't roll back while you tie it down. Joe

Here's a $30 2K lb manual winch at Harbor Freight.
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...temnumber=5798
And here's a $40 6K lb 12V electric version
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=43331
I'm sure either one would work fine in this rather limited light duty useage.
You can also go to Harbors home page and search on winch to return 19 diifferent ones they sell. And if you spend $50, the shipping is free.
Hope this helps. Good Luck!

I have an 8000 Ramsey on my Cherokee and a 2 1/2" receiver hitch on front. I hook my trailer to the front of it and then winch whatever I want to onto my trailer. If it won't go I get my ****** block out an pull it in or the Jeep in half. lol Jim
