Default Center Console Install Results

I just finished installing a reproduction Center console in my 69. The manufacturer/supplier was Corvette Central, bought through Wilcox. I had heard alot about poor fit and other issues with these reporduction interior parts, but in my case the fit/finish was very good, almost as good as the original part. I also notice some extra reinforcement at various points in the substructure.
I hope this helps those of you who are unsure which way to go with these type of parts.

The Corvette Central interior pieces I've bought don't seem to fit very well. The center console shift plate opening was a good 1/2" too narrow for the shift plate to fit. The windshield surround pieces fit terrible too. I also got mine from Wilcox. Maybe I got factory seconds, I don't know. Glad to hear that everything worked out well for you.

That is what I did, I used a heat gun and SLOWLY heated the console while I tightened the console plate down. After it cooled, the fit is perfect as the console formed its'self around the plate.

Still cant get the DA** pictures to post.

The interior restorers favorite tool!!! Both of my Corvette America door panels needed the heat gun treatment also.

I'll just jump in here with a side note. When I replaced the parking brake console on my 74 I got the replacement console that had the storage compartment in the rear. It seemed like a good idea at the time and is very useful for holding things like sunglasses, garage door openers, cigs, etc. The only problem is that because it's higher than the original console in the rear your elbow tends to hit the cover on top when you do a 1 - 2 or a 3 - 4 shift. I guess if you had an automatic it wouldn't matter but it's a little annoying with a 4 speed. I usually drive with the cover off and then replace it when parked. Just a heads up to anyone considering this mod.
