Default Correct paint color for rally wheels.

My 67 Impala has the factory rallys on them and I picked up another one for the spare. It has paint on it now, but I want to refinish it. What is the correct color for the rally wheel? Can I buy it over the counter? Thanks.

The correct color is called Argent Silver and it available from any of the restoration supply houses.

There are 2 shades of rally wheel paint. One is argent silver and the other shade is mostly argent silver but has a very slight green tint to it. Depending on the year model you should have one or the other. Quanta used to sell the special green tint version but maybe not anymore? Nobody but a true fanatic likes the idea of the green tint in there but that is the way they were sold. Not many people will be able to tell the difference.

That's one of my winter round-to-its. These are 1967 15 x 6" ralleys.

Ok, since the car is a 67, what color are you going to use Paul? The one pictured in your first post?

I purchased that can to paint those wheels. My car is far enough away from NCRS standards that a green tint is not important. I just want the car to look clean if I ever put those wheels back on. And of course once you put the trim rings back on the paint is scratched off right way. So it's a bit of an exercise in futility.

And BTW, Argent Silver is a curious phrase. Argent is French for silver so we are talking about "silver silver".

If you wish to be correct, the DuPont paint code is 9692L.

Thanks for the information on the paint. I have a 73 with the rally wheels. One of the previous owners painted them black. I like them better with the silver color. Now I know that I can get the VHT silver over the counter without special ordering it.

I thought I might add the fact that the inside of the wheels are black. Judges look for the silver overspray on the black, which is the way they came from the factory.
