Default Door Vapor Barrier

I was wondering what to use to hold the plastic vapor barrier on the door. It fits between the door panel and the door. I would like to use something that if I would have to work on anything inside the door at a later date I could get it off without ruining it. Thanks for any info. Chuck

Just get some 3 mil plastic sheeting... duct tape, or silicone it in place...

The sticky roll the fella above me talks about works too... just dont get it on anything!

I did a search a few years ago and couldn't find any aftermarket product so I used about 6 or 8 thou polyethylene sheet- seems to work O.K.

Do you even need to replace the vapor barrier plastic if you have aftermarket door panels that have the newer ABS plastic core? The old stock door panels had a cardboard frame back so I can see why it was needed for that.

I have been driving mine for a bunch of years with no vapor barrier. I do have the newer ABS panels. I don't drive it much when it is cold so I never even noticed a difference.

Although I think this is slightly bubba, I must admit to doing the same. I used the new clear duct tape to pretend that it is more appropriate, but it probably is more important to seal it that what you use to seal it. It its, after all, covered by the door panel.

weatherstrip adhesive, the caulk rope gets brittle and catches a lot of sand and seems to come loose after time

Chucks,

Thanks for the link. That's pretty neat stuff, insulation and moisture proof. I'll have to look into this after a few other projects.

He will sell you just the door panel insulation if that's all you want. I think it's about $22.00. I bought some off of him but it's to cold here in Ohio for me to get out in my cold garage and do the work. I'm 62 and just can't work out in a cold garage like I used to. Chuck

I'm 37 and I don't like to work in a cold garage.

I suppose it depends on what type of caulking. I use a gray type similar to what they have at Home Depot and it stays flexible. Have also used a butyl caulking in rope form- super sticky and stays soft.
