What's in those Porsche Speedster Kit Cars?
I'm sure the one I saw today was a kit car...well it was too nice. All the ones I've seen at car shows were kits with some sort of boosted up VW engine. This one was cherry red with sandle colored leather interior ahead of me on the freeway. I got along side to admire it and gave him a thumbs up as it was beautiful, he took off. At less than 1/2 of my pedal I left him standing still and slowed down to enjoy looking at his car again. He came up again with a pissed look on his face and then took off again. He miss shifted badly and I thought his engine was going to blow apart, what an idiot! He continued to tortuer that poor little motor. It's not like I would challenge a new Z06 or Viper, I know my car's limit. Well he was trying to prove something and I don't agree with racing on public roads plus I didn't want him to grenade his car becuase of me so I quickly exited the highway. Sort of disappointed with his immaturity and his treatment of his Porche. I'd love to own a car like that but it's more of a SCCA cornering car and definetly not up to par with a straight line acceleration contest with any V8.
So anyway what power plants are offered in those Speedsters?

VW type motors in the kits and originals! The power to weight ratio can be pretty decent as the cars weigh in at around 16-1800 LBS. There are "big" VW engines that can make 160-185HP with some reliability (not 100K miles type!)

Probably a 1.3-1.6L engine....you bully. As said though they can be built.

I've often heard the early Porsches were VW powered, and we know about the 914 cars but if I was buying a kit I definetly would not stay with a stock 100 hp model. Say a SRT engine.

I just sold my VW to fund my vette but it had a built motor. Stock it was 60hp 4000rpm redline. I took it to about 140hp and a 7000rpm redline. Had wheel hop so bad I couldnt floor it in first! Most likely the dude had a stock motor. You would have known if it was warmed over. It doesnt take much to make it fast since those things weight next to nothing.
