Default Tire Question

I need suggestions for replacement tires for my 68 coupe.
I presently have Goodyear GT Radials GR70/15.
I have spent last 7 years restoring car to original condition but for safety reasons do not want to puchase the original factory style tires that were on the car in 1968 and the Goodyears, while they still have brand new tread, are to old to keep for driving. (Car has not been driven in last 10 yearsso don't trust the tires due to age)
What suggestions are there for tires that will fit this car without causing any interference when turning or when suspension moves up and down.
Would very much appreciate pictures if you have any.
Thank you,
Kurt

I recently installed 17X8 wheels and 255/45/17 Kumho MX Tires. They go straight on and no rubbing. Some here have used 255/50/17, but with mixed results.

The larger wheels/tires improve handling and look much better.

I just took off a set of BFG Radials. 245 60 15. They have been very good tires for a driver. The 255 60 15s rubbed on mine in the front. The rubber bumper sharks have a little more clearance than the chrome bumper cars. The tire selection for 15 inchers is very limited. I went with 17s now.

Kurt, long time no talk to. The best size for '68-'72s is the P215-70R-15. I believe Michelin makes a narrow white stripe or blackwall in that size, but I forget what the model of the tire is from Michelin. Kinda thought about putting them on my Silver '68. I run Michelin "XW-4"s narrow white stripe on my '68 convertible, and they ride beautifully compared to the repro redlines on my '68 coupe. B.F.Goodrich T/As are what I have on my Orange '74, but they are 225/70s. Same with my Silver '75. I have Goodyear GTII tires on it, also a 225/70 size.

Those Goodyear GT radials you have may be worth something to an NCRS person.

Changing wheel sizes is not an option for me.
I plan to use the standard 68 factory rims.
What are my choices for tires with the standard 68 15 by 7 inch wheels?
Thanks,

I've had good results with the BFG Radial's, for a driver I would go with 225-60-15 so there would not be any clearance problems.
