Too bad about not wanting an NCRS or non-Canadian car. I know of a documented L89 Black/black with t-top.

Hey Mark, I have heard that only about 640 total Corvettes were imported in 69.
I saw a White 69 Z49 L88 at Carlisle a few years ago; there's gotta be some 435s out there.

Yes, I'm familiar with the white L-88 and know the owner (even tried to talk him out of it a couple times... No luck! :) ). Also, there is another car, a yellow coupe that I know about as well. Both M-40 transmission cars too... Go figure.
If your import information is accurate and extrapolating from the production records, you're looking at about 6 or 7 L-89s going to Canada in 1969, give or take a couple. Either way it's not too many cars... Good luck finding one.
I have a printout of several cars going to Canada in 1969... There's one L-71 on that list so I guess Canada got at least one 435hp car. :)
Canadian paperwork is great and I agree that it is hard to dispute what GM Canada sends out. Keep in mind though that cars have been built around paperwork before and Canadian documentation will do nothing to prevent that.
In any case, good luck with your search... I hope that you find what your looking for!

when I bought my 69 the owner said it was originally an L89 car but GM of Canada sent me the build sheet and it was factory L71 without aluminum heads. It's to bad that information does not exist in the USA, it can make alot of people sleep better at night. Also when I bought my 69 camaro I knew it was a big block car (X66 from tag) but GM verified it as an L78

how much documentation can you get out of GM Canada simply by providing them with a vin? All kinds of opportunities here! :) MJ

WOW! Why didnt I think of that? An interesting concept. You procure the original documentation from the original owner and build the car to match!
Unfortunately, this kind of thing happens. While I've seen a few Corvettes that have been rebuilt in this manner, I've actually encountered it more with some of the high dollar Camaros. The VIN numbers for the ZL-1 and Yenko Camaros are known... I can tell you that there are a few of these cars out there that don't have a single part that the car was originally delivered with on them outside of the VIN plate and trim tag. Personally, I really don't feel this is restoring a car... This is one of the reasons that I don't place a lot of faith in paperwork alone (that and the fact that most of the paper documentation is reproduced). Owner history and inspecting the car itself can tell you a lot as well; the best situation would be to have all three (and why cars that do bring the big bucks).

I heard about a 69 copo built around a canadian build sheet and VIN tags, nothing on the car belonged to the VIN, I also heard about someone modifing the Canadian build sheet to include the 4 wheel disk option on a 69 Z28 , but there was one problem, the prospective buyer called GM of CANADA and the extra option was confirmed as a fake
