Default FS: ’74 454 Conv 4 Spd rare & elegant White / Silver Leather, now on ebay

now on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chevrolet-Corvette-Stringray-1974-CORVETTE-CONVERTIBLE-454-4SPEED-/121364793400?forcerrptr=true&hash=item1c41e7c838&item=121364793400&pt=US_Cars_Trucks
CORVETTE 1974 CONVERTIBLE. LS4, 454ci, 4 Speed. This Vette is an all original, matching numbers, fully optioned, no accident car, stored and maintained for many years by a Bloomington / NCRS judge.

VIN number 1Z67Z4S433211. Body ID Plate: K27, Trim 407 (Silver Leather), Paint 10L (White). Options: LS4, 454ci Motor, Auxiliary Hardtop (White), Power Windows, Power Brakes, Power Steering, Air Conditioning, AM FM Stereo Radio, Map Light, Tilt-Telescopic Steering

The 1974 Corvette is revered by collectors as being the last of one generation and the first of the next. Last year of the 454, no more convertibles for the next 11 years after 1975, and the last year of the true dual exhaust. 1974 was also the first year of soft bumpers, front and back, to cover the shock absorbing transverse tube complying with the new safety crash regulations which styling continues to this day.

A private registry of 1974 Corvettes shows only 91 of the 454 convertibles are known to exist. Of these, 40% are matching numbers, about half are 4 speeds, and none have this rare and elegant combination of white exterior and silver leather interior. Hot Rod magazine, in its March 1986 issue, selected the 1974 Corvette 454 as one of the “10 most collectable muscle cars” which was the only big-block muscle car produced after 1970 worthy of that list.

This rare corvette is a unique combination of a convertible, big block, 4 speed, air conditioning, and special order Silver leather interior. Lots of paper work. The condition of the paint, the interior, frame, chassis, and engine are all between a 4 and a 5. The car is located in Fort Pierce, Florida. $36,500

Nice car.

Do you know the history of this car? I knew of one in my hometown growing up... White/silver 454/4 speed seemed to be an uncommon combination... Was wondering if it might be the same car.

Good luck with your sale!

Regards,

Stan Falenski

Hi Stan,

I purchased the car in June of 1988 from R.E. Seiling of Seiling Enterprises in Central City, Pa. and have had it ever since...
I see you are from Pa. so may be the same car.

Googled them and got the info below, maybe they are still in business...

If this is the car, do you have any insight into previous history or owners before me or Sieling?

Thanks, Gary

I know a guy who has bought and sold MANY cars. Made a decent hobby/business of it. He currently holds the price record for auction of a Fiat Jolly. He's owned MANY Corvettes over the years including, most recently, a pair of top-flight '68s.

He doesn't dabble now as much as he did. But the ONLY Corvette he is interested in purchasing is a 1974 big block 4-speed convertible. Preferably with A/C and highly optioned.

This car has the icing on the cake of being a special order color combination.

The chrome bumper cars are finally starting to see their day in the sun. This car ('74 BB Conv 4-spd) will be at the top of the heap of all rubber bumper cars, I think. Precious few made and the last example of an era past.

This is a special car and is accordingly priced. It will be well bought.

And yes, I have told my friend about this listing.

Since it was owned by a Bloomington/NCRS judge is it certified by either?

I said the car was “stored and maintained for many years by a Bloomington / NCRS judge”, not owned, but I never took it to Bloomington or to any NCRS events. This work was done when I first bought the car quite a long time ago. Dave had a garage and maintained the car for maybe over a 5 year period and stored it for at least several of them. I have all these bills in my paperwork that will be going with the car.

Thanks for the additional information Gary.

I saw the car in question in western Pennsylvania so I'll bet it's the same car... There can't be too many like that around. The gentleman who owned it has a younger brother that still owns a 1972 LT-1/C-60 car... Been in the family since new (the car AND the younger brother). I made several attempts to buy it, but never could convince him to sell at a reasonable price. Nice guy though... He even let me drive it once!

You mentioned documentation... Does it list the original dealer it sold from?

Again, good luck with your sale, it's a nice car!

Regards,

Stan

Had my brother check papers and he wrote;
"Receipts from Richard Grabiak Chevrolet, 600 N Church St., MT Pleasant, Pa. 15666 dated 3/26/1987 and 4/20/1987. This was probably the selling dealership."

not sure if this was original seller as was in 87 or weather it maybe ended up with this dealer as trade in on something else? Have a lot of papers since I bought the car in 88 but not a lot from before....
googled and got, Grabiak Chevrolet, Inc in New Alexandria, PA, seems they are still in business...

Thanks again Gary.

Grabiak Chevrolet (in New Alexandria, PA) was a high performance dealer back in the day. They had a reputation for selling a lot of Corvettes and still do pretty well today. I never heard of Grabiak Chevrolet in Mt. Pleasant, so I don' know what to make of that.

The owner with the white/silver 454 convertible that I remember lived in Latrobe, PA which is pretty close to both locations.

Considering that color/option combination wasn't too common, I'd bet that it is the same car.

Thanks for the memories!

Regards,

Stan
