Not numbers matching. Originally a LT-1 that was converted to a 454 somewhere through its life. Currently a nice 454 in Monza red and priced accordingly. Motivated seller. $20,000 or best offer.

1970 Corvette LT1 Stingray with 454ci, M21 Muncie 4-speed transmission, t-tops, between a show car and a daily driver, garage kept, pampered with all the goodies. 3.36 rear gear with positraction differential, 5,000 miles on engine rebuild, Edelbrock aluminum intake, new Edelbrock 690 carb, ceramic coated Hooker headers, new exhaust pipes, new duel Flowmaster stage II mufflers, K&N air filter, chrome valve covers, MSD ignition conversion, newer distributor cap and upgraded spark plug wires, new suspension bushings up front, new rear trailing arms and bearing in the rear, new gas tank, hoses, belts and water pump at rebuild, insulated fuel lines, new brakes, t-top bags, 1970 Michigan authentic license plates, assembly manual, Chiltons, Haynes and Corvette Black Book, with some original spares. 40 year old car with a few improvements left for new owner to complete. This has been a fantastic car and highly collectible due to low 1970 production (only 1,287 LT1s). This is one of the Corvettes that everyone dreams of owning.

History:

Vehicle Identification Number: 194370S406842, 1 – Chevy, 9 – Corvette, 4 – V8, 37 – Coupe, 0 – 1970, S – Built in St. Louis, Mo, 406842 – Specific vehicle number indicating a build date of after February, 1970, Trim 400 Black vinyl interior, 992 Original paint code for Laguna Gray, 974 – Car repainted somewhere during its history to Monza Red and original engine code CTU indicating LS1 350ci, 370hp high output (small block no longer with car). Due to extended 1969 production, 1970 production did not start until January 1970. Total build for 1970 was 17,316, lowest since 1962. Only 1,287 LT1 Corvettes were built in 1970. Source: Corvette Black Book.

Original Engine: 1970 Chevrolet Corvette 350cid LT1 Small Block, serial number 70S406842, CTU: 350ci, 370hp, mt, ig, Build Code V0227CTU, Casting Code 3970010, Casting Date: B50 (Feb. 5th, 1970). This car is not numbers matching. This is the only missing piece to return this car to numbers matching status. I have a photo of the original engine and the name of the eBay seller who sold the engine on eBay a few years ago. If that engine could be found and rebuilt, it could double the value of this car. Numbers matching LT1s in this condition are being priced at $40,000 to $50,000. Fully restored condition LT1s are currently listed at $60,000 to $90,000.

Current Engine: Rebuilt in 1998 by Baker Engineering Inc., 17165 Power Drive, Nunica, Michigan 49448, Phone (616) 837-8975, according to previous owner Bob Chambers. The engine was shrunk wrapped on a wooden pallet but previous owner was unable to produce rebuild paperwork. Bob informed me that performance cams were installed. I would love to have had the dyno runs for this engine. Before we installed engine, heads were removed and inspected. Oil pan and intake were also removed for block inspection. It appeared to be a fresh, zero miles motor so in it went. Also installed Edelbrock aluminum intake, new Edelbrock 690 carb , new water pump, new double roller timing chain, ceramic coated Hooker headers, new belts, hoses and fuel lines, new fuel filter, new fuel tank, new OEM replacement valve covers, new MSD electronic ignition and new spark plugs and wires. Only around 5,000 miles on the engine since the rebuild.

Exhaust: Hooker headers were sent to Jet Hot for ceramic coating inside and out. Installed new Corvette correct stainless exhaust system from headers to rear. Added new Flowmaster stage II mufflers. Added new 1970 Corvette correct OEM chrome exhaust tips (sugar scoops).

Transmission: M21 Muncie 4 speed close ratio transmission, Serial Number 70S406842 (car correct), P0005B (P= Muncie Plant, 0=1970, B= M21), Casting numbers: 3857584GM indicates 1966 – 1970, 3925661 indicates 1970-1974, 1st gear 2.20, 2nd gear 1.64, 3rd gear 1.28, 4th gear 1.00, Reverse 2.27
Rear end: 3.36 rear gear with posi-traction differential.
Suspension and Brakes: Front suspension bushings replace in 2000. Rear leaf spring replaced in 2000. Rear suspension arms, complete assembly both sides were replaced with new OEM part in 2004. Brake pads replaced in 2000.
Known Owners: K. Hamilton (me), Dearborn, Michigan. Titled in August 2000 to present. Garage kept. Rarely in the rain. Driven approximately 5,000 miles.
Robert C., Wyoming, Michigan, September 1994 to August 2000. Robert claimed that the car had not left his garage since 1996.
Prior owners unknown

Did the LT-1 engine sell when on ebay?
Have you contacted the seller?
Just trying to see how dead the trail is.

About five years ago and right here in Detroit. The seller is still active on eBay, but has not been very responsive. I also have not offered him a cash reward to help me track down the buyer.

Default Contact Me

Hi sorry that I am a few years late to this, but I am the current owner of the 1970 LT-1 block that belongs to this car. If you are still active contact me. Or of you sold this, can you point me in the right direction of who owns the car?

You should probably try to contact the OP by PM rather than add on a post to a thread from 5 years ago.

Also, you should go to the main C3 Discussion Page, and at the top in the Sticky section there’s a thread for ORPHAN VIN stamped Parts. Please post your info and picture there in the event the current owner of the car sees it.
