WTB: 1978 Pace Car Father/Son Project
Hey All,
Been a while since I posted. My son Grant is about that age now to get wrenching on a car. He loves the 78 pace car (as do I) and we are looking for a project.
Let me know if you have anything (Need rust free car) for sale or know anyone with one. We prefer a 4 spd, but are open to all cars.
Thanks in advance,
Frank and Grant in Atlanta area

If you find one, I have a set of the Pace Car decals if needed.

I have the body (complete: tub, birdcage, front clip, T-tops and hood) frame, and strong running 350/TH350 combo I will sell. It looks like somebody was trying to build a pace car clone on a '75 VIN number. I wanted the interior, brakes and wheels for my own build. Let me know if you have any interest. I haven't removed a single part yet, so the right deal could get it complete.

Safety Car
I have just what you're looking for. 1978 Pace Car, L-82 automatic, matching numbers. Life long Arizona and New Mexico car, so absolutely no rust. It really doesn't even have surface rust and I think I remember seeing the original stencils on the frame.
It was a daily driver here in the desert for a number of years so it needs restoration. The body has never been hit and the paint is original. The paint is actually not that bad… some fading and lacquer checking so you'd want to paint it, but if this was a C1 or C2 with original paint in similar condition, most people would leave the original paint. The front and rear bumpers are in good condition, not overly wavy. The interior is another story… it's pretty ratty and definitely needs an interior kit.
It does run but has a very bad knock in the engine so it needs a rebuild. I definitely would not drive it. I thought the noise might be in the transmission so I recently had the transmission professionally rebuilt by a well respected local shop. Of course it didn't fix the knock in the engine, but it needed to have the transmission rebuilt anyway. The brakes were rebuilt by the previous owner (I believe rebuilt calipers) and the carburetor was rebuilt.
Although the car needs restoration, it's a very original unmolested example. Everything is factory in the engine compartment. It has the original Pace Car blue tint T-tops (no cracks) and aluminum wheels with older but never driven Goodyear Eagle GT+4 tires.
I'd be asking $7,000 but I know there's shipping from Albuquerque involved so I'd be a little negotiable. PM me with your email address if you'd like to see pictures. Good luck with your search!!

pace car wanted
Not sure if you are still looking, I have a real Pace Car I started a frame off restoration about 17 years ago, it has the numbers match L-48 350 rebuilt, auto trans not orignal . The complete frame and drive drain is done, all body work on a rust free no hit car is done, all parts detailed with many NOS GM parts that are now discontinued. Body is back on frame and it runs and drives. I have many pictures of car before and during restoration, I have 85-90% of parts to finish car, just no time, it just sits in my shop while I restore other cars for customers. Well over $16,000 spent on car, will let it go for $9,000 and will make a deal on many more NOS GM parts to finish it.
Contact me direct for more details.
Car is located in Victoria Texas, about 110 miles South of Houston TX.

Hello,
Not sure if you want a complete, original car or not.
I have a '78 Pace car with less that 17,000 miles.
It's an automatic L-82 located in Wisconsin.
$ 22,000.00 / OB.
Thanks,
Dave

Interested in the Pace Car you mention.....
Can you put me in touch with your friend? Sounds great for the project with my boy. My brother lives in Columbus, so this sounds good.
Thanks
