FS: 1973 Corvette Stingray Big Block Coupe DFW Texas
SOLD SOLD SOLD
Up for sale is my 1973 Corvette big block coupe. In 1973, GM made over 34,000 Corvettes, and of those, only 4400 were ordered with the big block engine. If you do the math, that is just a little under 13% or total production. Small block cars are super easy to find, big block cars are a little more difficult. Below I have broken down all areas of the car, to hopefully answer the many questions I have received regarding the car.
Exterior: This vette currently wears a gorgeous shade of red paint, which was applied in the last few years by the previous owner. There are only a few small nicks in it, which I have photographed. The rest of the paint job looks as good in person as it does in the pictures; you will not be disappointed when you come test drive the car. I also have the paint print out from English Color, so touch up paint can be ordered which will match 100%. All of the exterior emblems are present and in good condition; all blinkers and lights work and operate like they should. The stock hood has been replaced with an aftermarket high rise hood, which gives room for the upgrades on the big block engine underneath. All of the glass is in good shape, with no cracks or pits. The original “Astro Ventilation” etched glass is in good shape and shows well. The door lock cylinders are new with brand new keys.
DriveTrain: This Big Block Stingray comes with a built 396 BBC motor from a 1968 Chevelle SS. It has barely 150 miles on it since being overhauled top to bottom. The rebuild included new crankshaft bearings, new piston rings, rebuild heads, valve job, new lifters, and a cam from Comp Cams. On the outside of the engine, the new parts include a high rise Edelbrock aluminum intake, New chrome valve covers, valve cover gaskets, and a super pricey Holley double pumper carburetor ($400 by itself). Letting this engine breathe better is a gorgeous set of Hooker Brand Chrome side pipes and Headers. These alone will set you back $1500, but the sound that they produce is amazing. This car is not for the faint of heart or for the inexperienced teen. The ignition system has been overhauled, with a new cap, rotor, coil, and msd street fire spark plug wires. Timing and dwell have been checked and are in spec. The radiator is a new stock unit, which is mated with an electric SPAL fan on the front to keep everything running cool. Most of the cooling system has been gone through and is new. The transmission is original to the car, but has had all the gaskets changed, the torque converter swapped out to an awesome 2200 stall converter which is an improvement over stock. The alternator, battery, fuel pump, sending unit and gas tank are all new.
Interior: The interior is in awesome shape, considering most of it is original to the car. I have replaced the door panels and the carpet because they were beyond saving. Other than that, the rest of the interior panels are original GM. All the gauges work like they should, including the original mechanical tach and speedo. Sometimes the gas gauge works but sometimes it is temper mental. The seats are original, and show a small amount of wear, but considering the age, they look awesome. The weather stripping on the A-pillars has been replaced, as well as the weather stripping around each door. All door handles work as they should and the windows roll up and down very well. The rear compartment has been restored as well, with new carpeting and storage door frames. Underneath you will find the original jack, jack handle and a new battery.
Suspension/Chassis: Both the front and rear suspensions have been totally gone through with new polyurethane bushings. Ball joints and tie rods are recent with new boots on all. The brake master cylinder and all four disc brake calipers are new, with recent brake pads on all four corners. The wheels have been blasted and painted the correct argent silver, with brand new trim rings installed on the factory rallys. The tires are Cooper Cobras, and are NEW (they still have the little feelers on them.) The car steers straight and stops straight. Both the frame and the birdcage front to back is rust free and solid. You will also notice the upgraded suspension that came with the big block cars is still intact. They came with heavy duty springs in the front, and also a rear sway bar in the back. The rear u-joints have caps on them instead of bolts in order to handle the increased torque. The VIN has the correct “Z” letter as the 5th digit, denoting a legit big block car; both the VIN on the A-pillar and door sticker match.
I am open for trades, but they must be a classic American car like mine, in similar condition. Please nothing newer than 1982, UNLESS it is another Corvette that has a similar value to mine. Sorry but no motorcycles, RVs, boats, guns etc.
The car has a clear, blue, Texas title in my name, with no liens or problems on it.
Call/email/text if interested. Payment is to be in cash only. I am asking $17900 OBO, and am willing to listen to offers, but they must be made in person, in cash. It is hard to believe that someone would make an offer on a car without seeing it and driving it first. Thanks for looking at my ad (and reading this far) and have a wonderful day.
Below is a review video that my friend made. Enjoy!

Sort of fits your criteria for trade, thought I'd throw it out there. I sold my disco vette project three years ago, but still troll around these boards on occasion to see what turns up.
It is a '79 with a '69 428 from a full sized Pontiac swapped in. I can tell you more if that sounds at all interesting. I'm in Houston.
