FS: 1978 Indy 500 Pace Car (St. Louis)
1978 Indianapolis 500 Pace Car
Numbers match- original engine and transmission
Very good condition, nice paint, decals are not on the car, however, I have an entire set of decals. I am leaving them off for now while selling.
Interior in very good condition.
Previous owner owned the car for 22 years.
Odometer reads 26,872. Previous owner claimed to be original, but I believe it to be 126,000 miles.
It has the L-48 engine and a 3 speed automatic .
I have 2 sets of T-tops: a black set and the coveted M1131 glass tops in great shape- no cracks.
Have original tank sticker
Car is located in St. Louis, Missouri.
Reason for selling: ordering a new C7. (Also selling my z-06)
Have been a member on here for 16 years and have sold 2 previous cars here on the forum .
Asking 13,800. Pictures to follow

Looks nice. Why do you think it has 126,000 instead of what the previous owner stated, 26k. I,m interested.

Well the previous owner gave me a book that had the tank sticker laminated as well as a bunch of receipts. These receipts were for oil, brake pads, etc . I found a receipt and it said the mileage on the car was 30k back in late 80s. So if it had 30k in the late 80s, it can't have 26k now. Now I guess the receipt could be wrong. But it did not matter to me. I wanted a car for local cruises and car shows that wouldn't break the bank and I was more than happy with the condition of the car even if the odometer had rolled over. I was fine with purchasing the car if the mileage was 120k and never pushed the issue.
I will take some more pictures of the interior and engine compartment. I can tell you this. The car has the "finned" L-82 valve covers on it, but the engine is the L-48. Previous owner said he did not like the blue valve covers so he purchased the L-82 covers.

I have been asked if anything on the car doesn't work. The clock on the dash does not work and the passenger side seat belt does not want to retract. I'm sure the seat belt is an easy fix, I just have not took it apart and looked at it. I will get some pictures of interior and engine up soon.

Do you have pictures of under the hood?
How does the paint look up close?

Yes... Sent a PM.
It is actually on consignment at a place here in St. Louis. Not sure if I'm allowed to give a link to it on here. But they have a lot of classic cars in St. Louis for sale.
