CE = crate engine. Motor has been replaced sometime in the past. Could be a neat project for someone.

What's the time build code on the trim tag? The Blackbook says #5072 was completed in December, 1970. There were not supposed to be any October cars built due to the strike.

All things considered, most of your convertible appears to be there.

Good luck with the sale.

I'm not totally sure but the numbers on the engine pad start with CE and I believe that designates the engine has been changed. There are a lot of different definition's of CE and the easiest to remember is "changed engine".

A local buddy does have a '67 Coupe that popped the engine when it was within warrantee and the dealer put a CE engine in so it could be dealer replaced.

Another way to get some idea about the engine is the casting date codes in relation to the build date.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info - I'll see if I can find out anymore information. I did a quick google search and it seems CE stands for "Chevrolet Engine" and is a replaced under warranty or purchased from the parts department. http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/da...ginecoding.jpg

I saw build numbers by month on a website (thought it was the GM heritage site but couldn't find the same one again) that led me to believe the sequence number 5072 was specific to a certain month but I can't find anything. Oh well.

If anyone going to Carlisle wants to stop in and check it out (or buy) its on the way if you're coming from the South.

You're book is more likely to be right than some random webpage I came across but isn't Dec of '70 a bit early for a '72?

Great project if I had the space I'd take it! I always heard CE stood for "counter exchange".

I think that CE is referring to a Counter Exchange Block , usually supplied thru the dealer. ??

Would love to save this one, but my '72 is already more than enough.

Still have it - dealt with some non-paying bidders on ebay (twice) and got tired of dealing with it and temporarily gave up. Its loaded on a real nice trailer for sale with the trailer now.

Got a few PM's its for sale with a trailer now. Its a dual axle trailer and comes with the vette.

Its loaded - all you need its a 2 5/16th ball and its yours. Working on getting some updated pictures with the trailer.

It sold for $4k twice on eBay - thanks to no show bidders. And I paid about $2500 for the trailer. I'll sell them both for $6k.

I'll probably have it back on eBay within a week or two (whenever my friend can get the pictures).

It'll be back up soon with some extra pictures and hopefully some info the trailer that is included in the sale.

Hopefully everyone enjoyed Corvette's at Carlisle - I'm stuck in India right now...

Interesting, I live in CA and need to see if my Pittsburgh brother will close the deal and arrange shipping.
Any pics of the trailer ? Is it double axle ? Commercial or home built ?
